Earl MacKinnon, Auctioneer, 655- 3526. 39-1SN Editor's Letter Dear Sir: As you will note by the date of this letter it is Friday and today is the day that our Council are meeting to try and come up with an answer to my recent question in regards to the pension money. You will recall that the Mayor was quoted as saying that he would be awfully surprised if anything was wrong and you also know me, that I wouldn't have asked the question if I hadn't known differently. differently. I feel that as the matter up in the first instance that I should at this time report back, because you can be assured that the Mayor will not reply. The following is what I feel is a good report of the Committee that investigated the matter (Mayor Rickard voted against this committee). 1. The committee submitted a report in excess of 100 pages (not too bad for a problem that did not exist). 2.1 suggest to you that in the report they suggest that certain certain steps should be now taken so this type of thing does not happen again (sounds like the saying, there has been no impropriety, but the matter is being cleaned up under town policy). 3. It would appear that the adminstrator wants to send a letter to me (no doubt he will be stopped) stating in brief that there were seven occasions occasions in error (I only had 5). 4. The total amount of money involved I would now estimate is approximately $20,542 and when you would add the town's share at $20,542 it means a lot of money. You might be told that the town's money was not paid back to the employees which is right, but the town has lost it to the pension plan, never to be recovered. 5. It would appear from reports that I get that papers were signed to the pension board to the effect that certain employees had terminated employment and this statement statement was sent to the Pension Board for a refund (actually no person had quit at all). G. I find in one instance a person who claimed to have quit the first day of the month actually signed the form four days later, verifying the facts on the paper. 7. It is my understanding now that the persons who are now left will be asked to repay the money back into the pension fund and then in turn that will puf the town's money back in play. Mr. Editor, this must have been a serious issue as wo have had legal people called in and unless my eyes are deceiving me 1 noticed the Labour lawyer going into the meeting today, and 1 guess we will never get the facts, but I draw to your attention again that if tills lmd not been brought out In the open then who knows where it would have gone. In conclusion, I would hope that the Mayor would come out and tell the whole story as it is without names so the public will know the truth (I Imvc the names). Yours truly, Ken Hooper
