Masters parred the 18th to even the match, then pulled off a tremendous shot out of deep rough to hit the green on the 1st hole in two. Don Gilhooly hit the trap and wound up with a five, while Don Masters two putted to capture the first Goodyear title. The game featured some dull hockey but by and large the hockey was not too bad especially when you consider many of the Eagles and hopeful hopeful Eagles have only skated twice before this game. The Eagles had a 3 to 0 lead after one period on goals by Scott Heard from Chris Dreossi and Glen German. Bill Slack from Jon Cleiff and Scott Heard and finally Troy Foster from Kelly Balson and Gord Rogers. The second period ended with the Eagles holding a 5 to 2 lead. The Eagles ran into penalty problems in the third period and had closed to within one goal (5 to 4) after ten minutes of the third period but veteran Dayrell Rowe scored with five minutes left in the game, assisted by Chris Michelson (back from Pickering Jr. B) and Brian Heard. This took the steam out of the Panthers and assured the victory for the Eagles. Newcomers John Rowe (from last year's Juveniles) and Shawn Herwood (Oshawa) (Oshawa) played adequately in goal. The team won 13 straight league games, to earn the League Championship. Continuing into the playoffs, Hampton first defeated Newcastle Newcastle 1-0 and 6-0; then defeated defeated Bowmanville Wolves 3- 0 and 3-0, to arrive at the championship game, played Saturday, September 14th at the Orono soccer fields: Bowmanville Beavers vs. Hampton. Hampton had several shots on the Bowmanville goal but were thwarted at every attempt by the excellent goal tending of the Bowmanville goalkeeper. Then, midway through the first half, Jason' Jackson scored Hampton's first goal on a well executed kick on a penalty shot. Hampton Hampton seemed spurred' on then and dominated the play for the rest of the game. Hampton's second goal came late in the 2nd half by Wesley Thompson. The game ended 2-0 in favour of Hampton.
