The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 2,1985 Elizabethville On Wednesday the Golden Age Club was invited invited into Port Hope and over twenty were able to attend. attend. We played progressive progressive euchre and the Port Hope ladies served coffee and fruit bread at four. They have a very nice place on Mill Street just recently done over. We enjoyed our afternoon very much. On Thursday over forty met at Campbellcroft hall for our September birthday pot luck dinner. Those celebrating were Art In- chley, Leta McAllister, Hazel Bristowe and Dick Ellis. We played euchre and UNO. Mrs. Ida Wilson won for UNO and Mrs. Mae Mul- drew won for high, Mrs. Edna Dean, mid high and Mrs. N. Morton low. Saturday, there were several several sales in the area. The yard sale west of here, I attended, attended, but didn't get to either the Bewdley or Per- rytown one. The one west of here the occupants are moving moving to Vancouver so needed to sell as much as possible. The Peacock twins were home on the weekend. Shane Peacock and friend, Toronto, called at Peacock's on Saturday. Church services were held as usual. Mrs. King, our speaker, conducted the service. service. The choir sang an anthem. anthem. Mrs. King continued the story about the little prince, prince, all about how a little flower grew. We should not be anxious and agonizing over what might happen only wasting time and energy. We should learn to trust in God. We should not worry too much about food and clothes to stay alive but trust in God. No one can live longer by worrying about it. Be concerned concerned with God's Kingdom and he will provide. Mr. White was at the door. Leah Fenton and Michelle Smith took ■ up the offering. A thank you card was read from Rev. Rutherford and family for the gift of dishes given to them when they left. He has asked if anyone had pictures taken while he was here of various events, they would like to get copies. Coffee was served as usual. Mr. and Mrs. H. Quantrill had Mr. and Mrs. J. Currier, Port Hope, call Sunday. Also they attended Trew's anniversary and had Mr. and Mrs. E. Elliott, Oshawa for tea. On Saturday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Woods (Beatrice Palmer) celebrated celebrated their fortieth wedding wedding anniversary when their two daughters Sylvia and Marleen with their husbands husbands and families took them for dinner at the Murray Murray house in Port Perry. Later in the evening they returned returned to Marleen's for ice cream and wedding cake. The Peacock twins took their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Peacock out for dinner recently. recently. Mr. and Mrs. Quantrill had Mr. and Mrs. Middleton, who bought their farm over, to call on Sunday evening. The Whitbreds were at Sunnyside on the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. C. Mercer spent Monday in Oshawa and visited Mrs. William Muldrew and had lea with her. After our pot luck dinner meeting on Thursday, we enjoyed a birthday cake made by Mrs. W. Dean, celebrating Hazel Bris- towe's 80th birllulay. I omitted omitted this at the beginning of this report. Mr. and Mrs. 0. Mercer had Mr. and Mrs. J. Beatty, Mr. Roy Beatty, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Slonehouse for tea Sunday. They had been at the 40th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Trcw. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Trcw celebrated their 40th wedding wedding anniversary by having open house in the afternoon Sunday. Friends attended from various places and they received many cards and gifts. In the evening, they had forty-two relatives from both sides of the family family for supper. Mrs. Greta McMillan was able to attend. attend. She is Mr. Trew's mother. Town and Country Lge.
