Bowmanville 623-5897 Banquet Held for Dennis Pizza Girls The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 2,1985 \ Run-a-thon Raises Funds for School Activities On Saturday, September 28,1985 the Dennis Pizzeria Girls Atom Soccer Team and their parents gathered at Dennis Pizzeria for a season season ending banquet. After polishing off 4 pizzas while parents reminisced about the season, Dennis pesented the team with a cake which was greeted with great delight. Following the food, certificates certificates and trophies were awarded as follows: Dawn Campbell - Excellence in Defensive Play; Robyn Dubeau - Excellence in Offensive Offensive Play; Jessica Hull - Excellence in Offensive Play; Christine Kiely - Excellence Excellence in Defensive Play; Janet Lange - Excellence in Offensive Play; Anna Rosenberg - Excellence in Team Effort. Just prior to the end of the season, parents were asked to select the team's Most Valuable Player and Runner Runner Up, Best Team Player and Runner Up and Most Improved Player and Runner Runner Up. The results were a true indication of the complete complete team effort that was put forward as every player received at least one nomination. nomination. It made it difficult to select. In fact, for Most Improved Player - Runner Up there was a three-way tie-Jessica Knoop, Alyssa McClennan, and Allison Morris. The Most Improved Player was Jessica Barrie. The same happended with Best Team Player Runner Runner Up, a three way tie - Kathy Clements, Desiree Plonk, and Koula Psoras. The Best Team Player was Elizabeth Wunderlich. The selection for Most Valuable Player was somewhat somewhat easier with Tracey Michaud the Runner Up. The unanimous choice as the most Valuable Player was Sarah Couch: Sarah was also presented with a trophy for her efforts by Doug Sleep representing the Bowmanville United Soccer Club. Congratulations Congratulations to Sarah and to the entire entire team. Doug Sleep (this time representing representing the Durham Girls Soccer League) then presented presented the team members with their trophies for their second place finish in the League Standings. Congratulations Congratulations Dennis' for a best ever showing over a long league schedule. You did a great job representing Bowmanville. As coach, there are three "groups" I would like to thank. First, Sam Psoras and Dennis Pizzeria for their sponsorshlip of the team. The players really appreciated appreciated your support and the banquet you provided was enjoyed by all. Second, the parents, for your support support and help throughout our five month season. You made my job much easier and certainly contributed to our successful season. Twenty-two students and two teachers braved the chilly weather to participate participate in the Bowmanville High School Phys. Ed. Department's second annual Run-a-thon last Friday. The runners raised between $400 and $500 towards the purchase of new equipment and supplies for the department. Scott Veals had the most pledges per lap, and ran 33 laps to win a cash prize as the top fund raiser. The girls' top runner was Carolyn Powell who completed 25 laps. Vince Robinson ran 34 laps for the top boys' honour.
