Fries & Pop $1.99 On the lovely autumn day of Sunday, October 6th, services in Welcome United Church was conducted by Mrs. Linda King with the theme for her sermon, gentleness but not meek timidity. When occasion demands, it is necessary to speak and act with firmness. Mother Theresa, now well known around the world, is an example of mighty accomplishments accomplishments by a gentle person. Her work began with caring for one dying man, and from that one deed has come a host of homes for those dying alone, orphanages and many other facilities fqjt desperate people. She has great faith and faith is a gift for all of us to use and with God's help, do much for others. The choir's anthem was "Glory be to Thee, my God" sung by ladies of the choir only. The children's story of the Little Prince continued continued to hold their attention as they learned how to make a friend and how to be one. The offering was received by Allin Osborne and Ron Thompson. Two beautiful arrangements of flowers were in loving memory of Mrs. Hazel Kirkpatrick Kirkpatrick of Port Hope, whose funeral was held on Friday. Sympathy is extended to her family in the sudden loss of a devoted lady, whose daily care for an elderly friend as well as her family, has never wavered for many years. The church has active weeks ahead by the many announcements given. Canton and Garden Hill anniversaries follow on the next two Sundays. Sundays. A party to raise funds for Mexican relief will be held at Welcome Church on October October 25th. On Sunday, Sept. 29th, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Payne and Garfield of Toronto were in Wakefield to attend the christening christening of their grandson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Hale. About thirty family and friends gathered at the Hale home following the christening for lunch. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Roly Bowman on the birth of their son, last week. Ladies of Welcome UCW were very busy on Saturday, October 5th catering to over 400 of the visitors who were on the house tour in Port Hope. It was quite a chore to fit in three table sittings in one hour and a half but organization and plenty of help did wonders. Every October a miracle happens in the world of nature and every year we seem at a loss for words to describe the beauty of the world around us. New every morning is the delightful picture, especially when the sun shines. Added pleasure is when a deer drops by to help herself to beet tops and the tender green of lawn grass. Licensed L.L.B.O. 96 Waverley Rd. Bowmanville Kendal Kendal's first annual yard sale had to be postponed due to the weather. Thanks to Mr. Wilkin the bake sale was able to go ahead. There was a good display of baking in Parkside, on the pool table, and by the end of the day, most of it had been purchased. There will be another bake sale along with the yard sale next Saturday, Oct. 12th, the rain date being Sunday, Oct. 13th and if this occurs, well, call in on your way home from church. There is only one bowling team for Kendal this year and I will endeavour to include the two hundred plus scores in the news. A few months ago certain members of my family answered a glowing ad in the classified. Since then life has not been the same. I've seen three members of my family go from energetic optimism to frustrated anger trying to make the impossible possible. The advertisement in question question is placed in the classifieds as being a part-time business that can be carried on in your basement or as a hobby in • your spare time - the business is raising worms and is called worm farming and is all quite legitimate. Where the issue starts to get cloudy is when the company paints glowing terms of how easy and simple, with just a little of your time, right in. your own basement and is completely odourless. The last statement is completely completely erroneous and unless your basement is about three. - times .bigger than the average that is .a gross exagération, sure you can keep your product product in the basement - if you don't mind the odour - but the equipment needed to operate your business takes up considerable space. To go into detail at this point would be too time consuming but believe me, these advts. don't tell it all, the way it is and unless you have a weather 'proof, temperature controlled building just laying around doing nothing, worm farming, to get started, is an expensive proposition. There are no shortcuts or makeshift methods. If you don't treat these critters right they just up and die, which for us they did. If anyone reading this is thinking of getting into worm farming the very basics are a building with some type of temperature control and lots of space and for yourself lots of patience, good eyesight and extra help - with a lot of luck you could realise those thousands thousands of dollars to be made, a year or so up the road.
