On Saturday, Sept. 28, Miss Doris Spencer accompanied her sister and brother-in-law, Art and Florence Tuson to Oshawa where they were among the many celebrants attending the 25th wedding anniversary in honor of the Tuson's daughter, Joan and husband Terry De Guerre. Joan's brother, Mr. Charles Tuson, of Mooresville, Indiana, also enjoyed the party which was held at the Ontario Regiment Officers' Mess. On Saturday evening, Leland, Ronald, Feme, Jack and Hazel Crago visited with Mr. and Mrs. Clare Allen, Bowmanville. Master Russell Hunt, Pontypool, spent the weekend with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Powell. Baby brother Grayden was a patient in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville. On Sunday Roxanne and Guy returned to have their automobile repaired repaired and were dinner guests of May. On Sunday afternoon Jack and Hazel Crago visited his brother-in-law, Mr. Bill Sargent, who is a patient in Scarborough General Hospital. Senior Citizens Bus Trip In the rain on Tuesday morning, October 1, 1985, at eight o'clock, forty-seven Newcastle Senior Citizens departed from the village on a trip north through Lindsay, Washago, Gravenhurst, Bala, stopping for lunch at Parry Sound. Even though skies were gray, the autumn colors were truly beautiful. Sudbury was the final destination for Tuesday. On Wednesday all visited the Nickel Mine where most of us cultivated a healthy respect for miners. Wednesday afternoon found the group at Science North, a snow-flake shaped exhibit building. Everyone enjoyed the three D film "Wilderness" in the rock Cavern Theatre at the end of the entrance tunnel. This tunnel was blasted from two billion year old rock. Days could be spent viewing all the exhibits and labs on the four levels of this unique building. Thursday morning was sunny but cool, when the bus departed from Sudbury, headed for Manitoulin Island. The autumn colors and scenery in our province of Ontario, attract many tourists and, so it was, that at South Baymouth, the Newcastle Senior Citizens bus was followed on to the Chi Cheemaun, by a bus driven by Keith Burley, of Waterloo. The noon-hour crossing was not too smooth and as a result, many were glad to be on terra firme again at Tobermory. A stop in Wiarton, a pretty little town, was most welcome. Thursday overnight was spent in Owen Sound. The drive through Meaford, Thornbury to Col- lingwood on Friday morning was most enjoyable. At Collingwood, shopping was done at Rainbow Ceramics, Candy Factory, and beautiful furniture displays at the Kaufman Showroom were viewed. Bayfield Mall and a Bradford Fruit market were visited on the scenic road home. Regional Clerk Bowmanville resident Bob Burke has announced that he will stand for election election as a separate school board trustee in the November November 12 vote. Mr. Burke, a communications communications consultant, has been active in a variety of community community endeavours and served two years on the public school board. The candidate said last week that the continued development development of a high school facility in Bowmanville and a new elementary school to serve the Courtice area are two immediate issues facing facing the Peterborough Victoria Victoria Northumberland and Newcastle Roman Catholic School Board this year. He added that the implications implications of Bill 30 (the extension extension of separate school funding into additional high school grades) will also be an important issue. "It's an issue that can bring us together," said Mr Pitch League. Mr. Burke noted that trustees trustees must keep the interests of the student foremost in all their decisions. "We're dealing with children. We can't ever lose that focus." Burke and he adds that the separate school system must work closely with the public schools in the future. Bob Burke has three children children in the separate school system, one at the high school level and two in elementary school. As a parent, he has worked towards the development development of French immersion immersion classes at the St. Joseph's school. And in his previous term as a public school trustee, he was instrumental in seeing seeing the construction of the Waverley Public School in Bowmanville.
