18 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 23,1985 EBENEZER U.C.W. Ebenezer U.C.W. met on Tuesday, October 15, 1985, at 1:30 p.m. with twenty-six ladies attending. Fall was very much in evidence thanks again to Mrs. Rae Osborne, as the C.E. Hall was beautifully decorated with fruits, vegetables and leaves. This set the mood for our Thanksgiving meeting. President Mrs. Charlotte Hughes welcomed everyone and opened with a reading. Our secretary Mrs. Kay Mackie read the past minutes and correspondence. Treasurer Mrs. Joan Down gave her report followed by the collecting of "Coppers for the Least Coin." President Charlotte spoke briefly about the very successful successful Presbyterial Regional meeting and also read letters from Shelley Wright, Victor Home, and Foundation for World Development telling of articles needed. We were reminded of upcoming upcoming bazaar dates: North- minster United Oct. 26, 1:30 - 4:00 p.m.; Oct. 28 - St. Mark's United, Whitby, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Pickering U.C.W. "Time of Our Lives" will be the theme of our November U.C.W. meeting on Nov. 21, beginning with dessert at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Joan Coverly and Mrs. Shirley Locke were in charge of our Thanksgiving devotional. devotional. Joan opened with a poem "Thank you God for all the simple things that each day brings." Offering was taken and dedicated. We all joined in 1 the singing of "Now Thank We All Our God" accompanied by Aunt Louise Osborne at the piano. Joan told how at this time of Thanksgiving, we make a special effort to give thanks for all kinds of things. At other times during the year we are apt to forget about what God has done for us. We all have talents, sometimes more than we want to acknowledge. How have we used these wonderful gifts that He has given to us during this past week, month or year? Joan said that they had picked a few of the many women in the Bible to see what they had done with their talents. Shirley read various scriptures pertaining to Sarah, Miriam, Dorcas, Martha and a special mention about Mary, Jesus' mother. Joan added many interesting thoughts about each woman. We then sang "Help Somebody Somebody Today" followed by Shirley closing the worship with prayer. Joan had asked many of our ladies to bring items to show how they had used some of the talents that God had given to them. A beautiful array of quilts, knitting, needlework, sewing, crocheting, and artwork artwork were displayed, with the owner of each telling about the article that they had brought. Mrs. Helen Herron displayed her talent by reciting a funny story. Mrs. Ruth Harris, Mrs. Charlotte Hughes, Mrs. Greta Down, Mrs. Jean Osborne and Mrs. Helen Herron sang "How Great Thou Art" accompanied by Mrs. Lois Osborne on the autoharp. We were then given a few minutes to look over the "Silent Auction" items. If any of you have ever tasted Mildred Muir or Jean Osborne's homemade buns you can imagine how everyone's everyone's taste buds worked overtime overtime anticipating how they would taste at their dinner that night. It created lots of chatter and many happy buyers went home to ponder their bargains. Special thanks to Joan Coverly and Shirley Locke for giving us a very interesting and enjoyable afternoon and to Mrs. Margaret Tink for providing refreshments. Welcome home to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Down who have been visit/ng with their daughter Janet, son David and families in Kamloops.
