What started like a normal quiet family dinner at a Whitby restaurant, a somewhat belated birthday dinner for your Yelverton scribe, took an unexpected turn. Unexpected for me, at least, for when we returned home to Malconia for coffee and birthday cake, there arrived a procession of friends and neighbors for what turned out to be a real surprise birthday birthday party in recognition of our "nativity" a few (seven) years back. Among the many cards which emphasized our inexorable march to galloping senility, were a few useful presents including an encyclopedia encyclopedia and a few nameless .ones, all of which we appreciated appreciated and "the spirit" in which they were given. Thanks a lot family and friends. Mona, Marti "and Mitzi each composed composed a humorous poetic address for the occasion as well. Mr, and Mrs. Allen Howe moved out of our community this ' week to a temporary residence - an apartment in Toronto where they shall reside until their new home is completed in a new subdivision subdivision at the south east side of Stouffville. Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of the late Graham Flaunt of Mt. Horeb who passed away suddenly this week. We extend a welcome to Mr. and Mrs. John Rae and family who have moved into the former Howe farm. We understand understand the Raes have a young family of twin girls. Miss Valerie Malcolm and Mr. John Brown of Montreal spent the weekend with the Murray Malcolm family. Welcome callers at Malconia this weekend were Joyce and Belford Panke of Manotick en route to Richmond Hill area to visit Bill's mother and family members. The weatherman provided full co-operation to our Yelverton community for our Thanksgiving roast beef dinner when around 450 paying adults plus children passed through the turnstiles so to speak. The ladies as per usual, provided an excellent meal, the beef was delicious, the gravy hot, the turnips tasted like turnips, the peas rolled all over the place and the desserts were a gastromi- cal delight. But, the best of all, which no one can measure in dollars and cents, was the genuine cooperation of all involved, working together in harmony for a common cause. We are particularly grateful to all those who are no longer in our community, or are not closely associated with our church, who worked like Trojan soldiers all night long, elbow to elbow. We earlier expressed trepidation trepidation about the long term prospects for our small church community. No longer! We now have every confidence that we shall overcome all the ups and downs we may confront in the future. Special thanks to all our guests who obviously enjoyed themselves and come back season after season. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Gundry of Barrie spent the weekend with Brenda and Terry Malcolm and family and enjoyed their customary Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday evening. Due to a lack of communication communication we neglected to mention that Mr. and Mrs. Balfour Moore recently entertained a number of Mary's relatives and attended their niece's wedding in Whitby. We also hear by the grapevine that Mary was the recipient of a surprise birthday birthday party for her "39 and holding" birthday. People moving from house to house have become the norm in our community Mary and Larry Mackie and family we understand, have sold their residence in Blackstock and will soon be moving back to our community to the property owned by Larry's dad, the late James Mackie. But the Mackies are currently relocating and renovating the farm home to a new location much nearer to the road on the Gray Line south of Yelverton. We welcome the Larry Mackie family back to our community. community. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fielding and family recently sold their property west of Lotus and have moved to Apsley. The employees of Lindsay Co-op this week hosted a "going away" party for two or their piers, Mr. Ian Page and Mr. Bob Munroe who have recently left the employment of the Co-op for greener fields. Best wishes to them both on their new fields of endeavour. Mr. and Mrs. Clare Robinson Robinson and family visited her parents and family members for their annual Hofstetter family reunion held each Thanksgiving weekend. Mrs. Wendal (Julie) Wyatt and Nicole of Mich., U.S.A., spent the past week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Connolly of Bobcaygeon, and Mr. and Mrs. Marti Malcolm and Dionne of Omemee.
