Congrats guys - you worked hard-played great- walk tall! Also, I'd like to thank all men, women, boys and girls who helped on our two lobb ball tournaments during the summer. Next year we hope to run several extra tournaments, as they are very popular and Tyrone has such a great reputation for not only good fun and well run tournaments but also for your friendly faces in the food booth, at games, etc. Everyone compliments Tyrone after each game, so lets carry on. One last thing - a sports reminder. Do you still have a Tyrone soccer or baseball uniform in your home? Please turn these in "now" to your coaches. The Athletic Associate Associate needs to take a uniform count now, so they can be prepared for '86 season early. This is a big job and the Athletics are always looking for new helpers. If you'd like on their committee, call A1 Lazure 263-8307. The Athletics meet the first Sunday of each month. Be a part of the community. Join in the different activités. Family skating starts at Darlington Arena real soon. Phone Arlene Yeo 263-2546 to find out when to join skating. Even if you only want to go out for a drive - come to our "wee" but busy hamlet. The foliage of the trees is at its peak right now, the Tyrone Mills are busy pressing apple cider, making donuts and cutting wood. Tyrone General Store has something for everyone and Cliff loves to see new faces or reminisce with old "Tyronians." Also to the north we have Woodley's sawmill where friendly smiles and a chat will meet all comers. We are surrounded by apple orchards all busy harvesting their crops. Bring the family to the farms to pick your own if posted or buy a bushel of nature's best from Tyrone. You certainly won't regret the time or the drive. [Intended for Last Week] Well sports fans, probably most have put the ball equipment away and you are now limbering up for school or group teams of football, hockey or getting ready to ski. Stay active - makes you look and feel younger. Tyrone soccer and baseball teams had one very productive productive year. First of all our young Novice Girls wpn their games, all but one, all season then finished up winning the Novice Championship. These young girls and the coach, Tammy Wallace, all deserve a loud round of applause. Our other girls teams Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantams although they didn't bring home a trophy, also had a great year and they and their coaches earned your respect. It is great to attend the games and see really good sportsmanship shown by not only Tyrone coaches but truly portrayed by young female athletes. That's what it is really all about. Usually a lot of the "crabbing" and tension is caused by the parents and onlookers. Let's enjoy our kids as they are - let them play the game - learn to be better but have fun doing all of the above. These young people don't know how to protest and bicker unless they see their elders doing it. Don't be the example. In the soccer news our Junior Men's team had one really great year. They are '85 Junior Soccer Champs, with Bernie Heming, a winning coach again. Bernie has brought most of these boys up through the ranks since they were Atom age, and they sure play well together. Thanks guys and Bernie! The Bantam boys had quite a good year but found Bowmanville Bowmanville their one big problem. In the final playoff Tyrone squared off to Bowmanville at Orono soccer pitch. Although they were not all present for the final game, the team members present did give an admirable attempt and although they ended up in second place, they should still stand proud. Their coach Steve Canonico moved from Tyrone into Oshawa during the summer months - so thanks Steve for coming out and finishing the season with the boys. He set up a game with our Bantam boys against Whitby all-stars, in Whitby Peel Park. Once again, the team came up short in players, so younger ones had to be brought up to have just enough to play. The Whitby boys were much bigger than our boys, and were that much more experienced. We did not go down without Tyrone scoring two goals to their five. They had two great players who were really superior, oh well, maybe next year. Maybe more parents will come out to see these young men's games. Tyrone parents show up but hardly more than one or two from other teams. John Virtue's team also played off in Orono and they fought a hard game, and also ended up in second place. No shame in that - next year they'll beat Newcastle maybe. I don't know exactly the outcome of the Tykes under the coaching of Dwayne Glaspell; the Squirts under Ian Bowers didn't fare too well, but had fun; the Atoms under Michael Virtue, I have not heard of any of their games and also Loran Pascoe's Pee Wees I don't know how they made out, but all of the above teams probably gave their best shot and hopefully had a fun season. Thanks a lot coaches - you deserve one giant round of applause. You give up a lot to coach - attending games and practices. Now for the "big" news - Our Senior Men's Soccer Team - "the 1985 champs!" Tyrone's team put Salem down in the first round of the playoffs, and shortly after set The Flying Dutchmen on the sidelines too. Now, its on to the Solina Blue Machine - and boy what games - the final playoffs! Tyrone was really hungry for the title, and they played a whole new way. It was great to see good "refs" on the sidelines, as well as a good, strict referee on the field. The teams had to play good soccer instead of a lot. of "dirty shots" at each other. The Solina team has apparently held the title for the past eighteen years, less the one time two years ago they lost to Hampton. Well it was extra sweet to get the trophy on the Solina soccer pitch and then go home blowing our horns in great excitement, Also great to see coach Ralph Davey at last lose his wrinkled brow and worried looks to a "smile." Never have I seen a man so happy - the team was ecstatic in the MIDWAY MIDWAY MIDWAY MIDWAY MIDWAY * i • • I J j ipkspiÿpy' ■ w ' REGIONAL | COUNCILLOR WARD 2 > ' g MIDWAY MOTORS ■£ DURHAM REGION'S No. 11MPORT TRUCK DEALER MIDWAY MIDWAY MIDWAY
