Charlie Trim won the Boys Senior Championship. The runner-up was Bill Allison. The Girls Senior Championship was won by Sandra Chaskavich with Julia Allin as runner-up. David Werry is the new intermediate Boys Champion, and Don Kerr was the runner-up. Helen Panas captured the Girls Intermediate Championship, and Marjorie Stewart was runner- up. Talbot Thompson became the Junior Boys Champion, and David Neads became runner-up. The winner of the Girls Junior Championship was Marg Pickard and Bonnie Mutton was runner-up. FLASHBACK -- 10 YEARS AGO -- The Boxing and Self Defence elective course at Bowmanville Senior Public School is being taught by the Reverend Reverend N.E. Schamerhorn of St. Paul's United Church. Game time 7:30 p.m. NEW MARINA -- Construction of a new municipally municipally owned marina on the Port Perry waterfront could get underway as early as two weeks and be completed by the end of next April. Township council has accepted a bid for construction of the new facility from Lake Scugog Lumber, Port Perry, and work will get underway this fall. In Saturday's opening game, Courtice Auto Wreckers were defeated by Shopper's Drug Mart 3 to 0 with goals from R. Aylsworth, G. James and D. Lally. Shoppers also held the edge in shots on goal as they bombed Courtice' s D. Forrester with 32. Courtice managed only 13 shots, and also on the lower end of penalties, claiming six of the 14 assessed. The Dutchman must have been glued to the T.V. for Saturday's second game as they iced only eight players. Despite shots on goal being equal at 24 apiece, the score was recorded as 9 to 2 in favour of Twin Brand Orchards. B. Shantz and G. Gray each slammed in a pair for the "Beasties" with the other five singles spread out among their team mates. Dutchman markers were from A. Warren and P. Bycok i late in the game to foil Twin Brand's bid for a shutout. Penalties were four minors to . Twin Brand and two to the Dutchman. It doesn't seem possible that a team could play a 7:00 a.m. game and score five times in 11 shots, but according to the sheets Toby's Pub did just that in their match against San Marino's. Shots were recorded at 34 to 11 for San Marino's but with Toby's taking the game 5 to 3. C. Wheeler was one of the sharp shooters for Toby's with a pair while D. Cox, M. Clouthier and J. Noble found the spot with singles. M. Clarey of San Marino's had a pair in his team's effort as M. DymarsRi rounded off their scoring. Penalties logged showed that Toby's had the . edge 6 to 3. R. ' Midgets Open Season with Win and Loss The Hooked on Video Midget team opened their league play this last weekend splitting with a win and a loss. On Saturday we travelled to Pickering to lose to their Midgets and start the season off. The Toros were never in 'this game from the beginning faceoff. Scoring Bowman- ville's only goal in the third period was Rob Davidson with assists to Brian Dodd and David Morrison. On Sunday they played host to Ajax, beating them 5-3. This was a penalty filled game on both teams part but Bowmanville Bowmanville managed to still outplay outplay them on the ice. Scoring the Toro goals were Rob Davidson with two, David Zoelman, David Morrison and Michael Houston. Gaining assists were David Zoelman with two, Mike Colwell, Ian Wheelock, Greg Martin and Dan Annis. Major Midget Toros Win Four Games in a Row Success and good luck are usually the result of being prepared for an opportunity, and the St. Marys Cement major midgets have gone into their last four contests prepared. As a result, they have come home with four victories. Sunday, October 6th saw the St. Marys boys in Lindsay for an exhibition encounter. In spite of the lack of passing and usual torrid skating, they came away with a 5 - 4 victory - Paul Stainton, Jamie Downing, Shawn Rekker, Kelly Balson and Chris Shmyr with the winner accounted for the goals. Worthy assists went to Larry Perris (two), Shawn Rekker, George Pithie, Chris Shmyr, John Romano and David Tuepah. On Wednesday, October 9th the major midgets played host to Pickering AA and gained a 4 -1 decision over their higher classed opponents. George Pithie opened the scoring from John Romano and Bob McArthur. Kelly Balson and Paul Stainton set David Fairey up for the second goal before Pickering notched their only counter with 22 seconds left in the second period. Midway Midway through the third, Glen Campbell converted a pass from Larry Perris and Paul Stainton. The scoring was completed by Kelly Balson from Scott Page. David Smith posted à shut-out for his half of the game with" Scott Webster auowmg the one goal. Stouffville were the visitors for the first league game played in Darlington on Wednesday, October 16th. The St. Marys Toros picked up the win by a 7-3 score. Scott Page, Mike Gallant, Larry Perris and Chris Shmyr gave the locals a 4 - 0 lead before the ! visitors scored. One of the : prettiest goals of the year was. scored by Bob McArthur on ai quick pass from George Pithirs and Shawn Rekker'. McArthur, Pithie and Rekkeir notched another four minutes later with Kelly Balson rounding rounding out the scoring. Shmyr (four), Downing (two), Pithie (two), Rekker (two), Pai^e (two), Gallant and McArthur supplied the set-up passes. Bowmanville Oct. 20 Oshawa "Sipco Oil" Blackhawks Blackhawks played host to the "Canadian Tire" Club in an exhibition game here this afternoon. The game was a bit of a lopsided affair as most of the play was in the Oshawa end throughout the game. Only some sharp goaltending by Oshawa kept them in the game. In the first period, Rob Real opened the scoring with assists going to Dean Baumhauer and Gareth Stone. Mark Tripp made it 2 - 0 assisted by Gareth Stone. There was no scoring in the second, due to the strong goaltending provided by Reid Hasted and Ian Cooper in the Oshawa net. In the third, Gareth Stone, got his third point of the night on a goal assisted by Mark Tripp and Rob Real. In the first period, the Toros took a 1 - 0 lead on a power play goal by Guy Freeman from Brad Rushak and Troy Mutton. Bowmanville 623-6353 Stouffville, Oct. 14 The Toro Bantam "A" team sponsored this year by the local Canadian Tire Store, travelled to Stouffville for the opening game of their 85-86 season. This year's team members are Troy Mutton, Greg Goode, Dean Baumhauer, Baumhauer, and Tony VanHoof on defence, Brad Rushak, Craig deBlois, Rob Real, Eric Janssens, Guy Freeman, Kevin Flintoff, Gareth Stone and Nicky Dennis as the forwards. Goaltending to be handled by Burke Lush and Kevin Zarosky. The coach is Brian Taylor with Harold Mutton as manager and Nick Dennis as trainer. In Stouffville, the first period was scoreless. Both teams, in particular the Toros, played it cautiously, which resulted in some giveaways by both teams. However, neither team to capitalize on the opportunities. In the second period, the local team took an early 1 - 0 lead, scoring after just 1:30 into the period. Eric Janssens evened the score with assists going to Mark Tripp and Rob Real. Craig deBlois gave the Canadian Tire team a 2 to 1 lead on a goal assisted by Brad Rushak. The lead was short-lived, as it just took Stouffville 14 seconds to come back and even the score at two apiece. The score remained that way until the latter stages of the second period, when the home team jumped into a 3 - 2 lead on a power play goal at the 2:06 mark. The Torosi struck early in the third to tie the game as Craig deBlois got his second goal of the night, unassisted. Bfad Rushak and deBlois combined to 'give Bowmanville Bowmanville a 4 - 3 lead as Rushak picked up his second goal of the night. Nicky Dennis then made it 5 - 3 on a goal assisted by Eric Janssens. With Dennis's goal coming with three minutes left in the game it looked like the Canadian Tire club would open the season on a winning note. However, Stouffville had other ideas, and in a span of 16 seconds they came, back to tie the game at 5 - 5. Season Opens for Non Contact Games There was plenty of action at the Bowmanville Arena on Sunday morning, Oct. 20th as the newly formed Commercial Non Contact League opened its regular season with a pair of high scoring contests. In the first match, a late third period goal by Vince Probert assisted by Barry Boyle lifted Royal View Glass to a 6 - 6 tie with National Home Video. Vince Probert and Noel Marsella led the Royal View offence with two goals apiece. Other scorers were Scott McLean and Dan Armstrong with a goal and an assist each. Barry Boyle chipped in with two assists while single helpers went to Mike Folks and Frank Rehr. For the Nationals, George Bowen led the attack with a fine three goal "hat trick" performance. John Downs helped out with two goals and assist while Rob Maddock had a single marker and an assist. Single assists went to Len White, Ted Lintner, Larry Sheppard, Fred Bowen and Ed Harper. The. shots on goal were 26 for each club; In the second game, the Falcons were flying as they outshot their opponents Dennis Pizza 40 - 15 on their way to a 7 - 3 victory. In a pre-season game, in Ajax, he went into the boards rather heavily and was taken off the ice in a stretcher. Fortunately, Fortunately, it was only a bruised knee and although he missed the first league game, he was back to form for the home opener.
