7 12 The Canadian Statesman. Bowmanvilie, November 6,1985 Section Two SOLINA NEWS (Intended for last week] With standard time coming into effect, we see the changes in the winter schedule for Zion, Eldad and Hampton Church Services. Hampton- ites can sleep in longer as their service doesn't start until 11:30, Solina-ites have the intermediate time zone, starting at 10:15. However, our friends in Zion have to hit the deck, almost like a normal week day, as their starting time will be 9:00 a.m. These time changes are on a rotating time schedule. Since Zion has to rise the earliest, we will start with them. On November 3, which was Zion Women's Sunday, Mrs. Shelley • Wright, who recently returned from a stint in South Korea, was guest speaker. Our sleepy heads in Hampton, had Mrs. Pat Beach as their guest speaker. Eldad Church, which sits atop the hill, keeping an eye on the citizens of Solina, had Mrs. Shelley Wright as their guest speaker on October 27. Her speech was basically on the youth in Korea. In the event that any of the youth in our country feel that they are having it rough in Canada, don't miss Shelley's message at Zion on November 3. I couldn't begin to write everything that was presented in her delivery. However, here are just a few of the highlights from Shelley's message. Not everyone in South Korea, can go to school. Influential people have a great deal to say on whether you are allowed to have an education. They start school at 8 a.m. in a library or reference room, and go into classrooms between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. There is one half hour for lunch, (hamburgers are a common food), and they continue continue on until 6:00 p.m. The evening is spent on further studies. They have one month off in the summer and one in the winter. If, at any time, there are more than a half dozen students students milling around to present present a protest for a better form of democratic life, they are immediately dispersed by The Korean troops, which are present 24 hours a day. Any student who is caught repeating repeating this type of protest is taken to jail, where stories of torture ' in various forms, are said to occur. In fact, large militant protests against the Korean For ever so long I tried to exchange My sewing machine For a good kitchen range; Then 1 ran an ad here And you really should see The range of the ranges Offered to me! style of government, result in mass executions. Those not allowed to receive an education are forced into factories and other areas of the work force. Here, they work long hours, and may work 6 or? days a week. Offsetting these hardships, students can be seen sitting at computers, and using modern technology in factories in the large urban centers. . ' The bottom line is quite ! obvious to everyone, after you have listened to Shelley for half an hour, and that is "How lucky we are to be living in Canada." Some upcoming events - The Official Board Meeting was to have been held Tuesday, November 5 at 8:00 p.m., at Zion Church. The Young Adult Group will meet Monday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Harmony United Church in Oshawa. Eldad will be having special music Sunday, November 17 for half an hour before and during the service. You can purchase a new book, of 80 original hymns by Coby Veenstra, from 'Dyk- stra's Grocery in Bowmanvilie, Bowmanvilie, or directly from • Coby. Her address and phone number are Box 133, Hampton, Ontario LOB lJo and 263-8368. The books are selling for $5.00. The Solina '.'Seven" bowling team took four points last week, however, they are short one player. If anyone would be interested in joining this team, phone Lloyd Broome at 263-2349 or Don Taylor at 263-2563. Badminton for adults, will be held Thursday from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. at Hampton Junior Public School. The forces, working on the park, were seen after dark last Saturday, filling in areas where the tennis courts will be. The Big Blue soccer dance will be held at Orono Arena on Saturday, November 9th. Tickets ay be purchased from any member of the soccer team. Kim Werry, our 4-H reporter, phoned in the following: following: On November 4th, the Senior W.I. and the 4-H parents are invited to a tea and cake social at the hall, which will be followed by a skit and free raffles on a cake. Kim has a warning for all 4-H parents - Don't plan anything's anything's else on that date. So there you go mothers, don't let the girls down. The girls made many delicious delicious baked goods, which included apple pie, carrot chicken corn pie and apple chiffon. They would like to thank Janice Yellow lees for ' her help in decorating the ' cake, and for her all round ' directions. Kim is reminding all the girls to bring white cake and 4 tea biscuits which will be judged. .1 was reprimanded by Kim for this late request, as I was not available for last week's column. Sorry Kim, but I have a busy schedule for the next couple of months.
