The team seemed to be up for the game and took an early 1-0 lead on Steve De Smedt's first goal of the evening from Chad Armstrong and Tyler Stokes. With 11 seconds to go in the first period, Oshawa scored to make it 1 - 1. The Oshawa Bruins controlled the second ' period and scored two goals for a 3 -1 score after two. The Toros displayed some individual plays throughout the first two periods, but rebounded rebounded to score the only goal in the third - Steve De Smedt, his second, from Marty Burgess and Corey Strand. Oshawa winning 3 - 2. Although the coaching staff stress team play by sticking to the fundamentals of hockey, the team was reminded of this and responded in the next game against Oshawa LNHL "Canadians" on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 9, 1985, at Darlington. The "Dutchman" scored two quick goals, the first at 3:47 and second at 3:04 mark. Terry Van Londen opened the scoring from Tracy "Speedy" Lemke and David Real, followed by Steve , De Smedt (his first of four) from Chad Armstrong and Tyler Stokes. Oshawa opened the second period, as former Flying Dutchman Atom Toros from 1984-85 season, Todd Cannings, who won the face- off, beat the defense and scored with seven seconds played. Late in the second, at the 0:51 and 0:29 mark, the Toros struck for two more quick goals, both power plays - Steven De Smedt from Chad Armstrong and then Chad. Armstrong from Tyler and Steve. Early in the third, Steve scored his third of the game from Chad Armstrong and Richard "Batman" Bateman, only to have Oshawa score one minute later to make the score 5 - 2 in favor of Bowmanville. Shortly after that, Oshawa ran into a number of penalties, which resulted in the Toros scoring two more goals. Marty Burgess from Chad "Whitey" VanderEnde and Ryan Stewart and then Steve, again, his fourth of the game, from Chad "A", the Flying Dutchman Dutchman winning the game 7-2. Congratulations to Steve for his "hat trick" and five point game and Chad Armstrong for a four point game.
