The week started off with a Monday night game in Port Perry. The last time we met in Darlington our St. Marys Cement Plant boys managed to battle back for a 5 - 4 win. However, this was to be Port Perry's night as they notched the first goal at 5r06 of the first, to have it tied by Shawn Rekker from Larry Perris less than a minute later. With only 54 seconds left in the first period Dexter put Port Perry ahead to stay. Additional goals for our lads were tallied by George Pithie and Dave Tuepah. Chris Shmyr and Mike Gallant earned assists in the 5 - 3 loss. David Smith handled 24 shots in the Toro net. Wednesday night Lindsay visited the Toro corral and supplied able opposition but ended up on the short end of a 4 - 2 score. Mike Gallant tallied for an early marker from Shawn Rekker only to have Lindsay tie it early in the second before the St, Marys boys took over. Three consecutive consecutive goals were scored by Kelly Balson (his first game back from a thumb injury), Bob McArthur and David Fairey to cap a breakaway. Assists were picked up by Kelly Balson, Mike Gallant and John Romano. Scott Webster handled 25 shots allowing two goals. Sunday the St. Marys Toros journeyed to Uxbridge for a 4:00 p.m. game. Due to mental mistakes, injuries and employment, the roster was down to two complete lines and it seems this is very productive. Uxbridge who had beaten us at home were edged 8 - 6. Our boys stuck to hockey and as a result came out of the first period with a scoreless tie. Kelly Balson tallied from Campbell and Fairey early in the second. The boys from Bowmanville continued the rally by adding three more off the sticks of Larry Perris,... Chris Shmyr: and pavid Fairey. David : Fairey also picked up two assists with Chris Shmyr, Glen Campbell and Larry Perris also contributing. contributing. The scoring then seesawed seesawed back and forth until the final buzzer when it read 8 - 6. Shawn Rekker counted the hat trick, with Scott Page picking up a single. David Smith made some key saves at crucial times to keep our boys in the lead. Pyramid Points The road to adulthood is a rocky one. Young teenagers encounter frustrating and challenging situations which they don't always have the experience to deal with: One of these is a penalty situation. Next week has a Little N.H.L. team from Oshawa visiting on Wednesday, then we visit the Oshawa Minor AAA in the Civic at 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Saturday we are off to Napanee for a one day tourney where we play our first game at 10:00 a.m. against Brockvilie. Our highlight this week features David Tuepah and Paul Stainton. Dave Tuepah who carried number two, holds down the post as one of our defencemen, Dave is a steady performer who can really deal out a check when the opportunity arises. Dave has three goals to his credit, 13 assists for a total of 16 points. He has accumulated accumulated 40 minutes in penalties and supports a plus 21. The plus minus rating results from a player receiving (-1) if he is on the ice when a goal is scored against his team and a (plus one) if he is on when his team scores. Dave's 21 is a total of all his pluses and minuses. The young Mr. Tuepah played for the Toro Major Midgets last year and benefitted from the age change which has given him another year of midget. Paul Stainton, our hard skating number three is an outstanding corner man. He is not a big boy but makes up for it with hustle and aggression. He is one of our two right-hand shots but is very versatile. Paul has 10 goals including a hat trick and 10 assists for twenty points. He has • accumulated 35 minutes in penalties and has a plus 19 total. Paul played for the Minor Midgets last year and was one of the key players in their advance to the Ontario final.
