Here are some facts on refreshing and thirst-quenching Ontario juices: Currently, 16 juice processors are responsible for making about $117 million worth of juices from Ontario- grown fruits and vegetables. About half of the Ontario juice volume belongs to tomato juice, followed closely by pure apple juice, then by mixed vegetable juices, and grape juice (purple and white). Canadians love to drink up the fresh flavor and good taste of these juices, as the average yearly consumption is 280 fluid ounces per capita. Almost all grape, tomato and vegetable juices are made with Ontario produce. If graded, the "Canada Fancy" or "Canada Choice" grades will confirm that they were made here. With apple juice, only pure juice or two-thirds of the apple juice sold in Ontario contains Ontario apples. Most of the apple juice made from concentrate is imported in bulk form and is reconstituted and packaged in Ontario. The label must indicate whether or not the juice is pure or made from concentrate. Good news for the diet conscious - a 4 oz. (125 mL) serving of pure apple juice has 65 calories, grape juice has 87 calories, and a whole cup (250 mL) of tomato or vegetable juice has only 47 calories. Ontario juices are available in a variety of bottles, cans and boxes ranging from the individual 5^oz. size, right up to the 64 oz. family size. The most common metric sizes extend from 250 mL to 1 L. Some Ontario juices also come in aseptic, form-filled packages, commonly known as drinking boxes. These compact containers are lighter and easy to store. TASTE ONTARIO GRAPE JUICES The holiday season is a special time of year,. It's a time to rekindle old friendships and to build new ones.
