Waverley Public School News Mrs. Sousa's Grade 3 Class By Tracy Moriarity Mrs. Sousa's class is learning learning to borrow and carry in math. In spelling the class writes out their words, put them in sentences and have dictation. Everyone has a daily diary in which they write what they did that day. The. class has just finished a unit on insects and will be starting a new unit in December. Keep it up! Black Creek By Jennifer Moser Recently Ms. Porter and Mrs. Snowden's classes (grade 4) went to Black Creek Pioneer Village in Toronto. At 9:00a.m. they went by bus and returned at approximately 3:30 p.m. They packed their own lunches. At Black Creek they toured all the buildings and saw how the pioneers used to live. Some of the jobs were: Blacksmith, owner of General Store, owner of Mill and Farmers. They went to Black Creek because it was their Environmental Studies unit. Now they are doing pioneer crafts such as hanging apples, crosswords and pictures. I hope they had a good time. The Parent Advisory Committee By Kelly Conley I am going to tell you about the Parent Advisory Committee. Recently the Parent Advisory Committee held a meeting in conjunction with Drug Prevention Week. They watched a movie about drugs called "Butt It Out" and one about drinking called "Never Listen to a Bottle." At the meeting parents give suggestions about what they would like to happen at Waverley. These meetings are held four or five times a year. Our parents like these meetings because they know exactly what will happen at Waverley. _ My.Recipe for Happiness, By Elizabeth Welch Gr. 6 1 cup of yogurt 1 understanding parents 1 caring friend 2 cups of rainbow . 10 spoonfuls of love 1 or more pets a few gallons of pop a teaspoon of stamps Mix well and enjoy. Something To Think About PAUL MORRIS DiRECTOR- CHANGE OF EMPHASIS Over the years, the role of the funeral director has steadily steadily evolved. As Ihe lamily and the religious institution played a decreasing part in the care of the dead, the funeral director director took over many functions which they previously carried out. As houses became generally generally smaller, it was Ihe funeral director who could provide a building large enough lo accommodate accommodate big families gathered gathered for mourning. As embalming embalming became more sophisticated, sophisticated, it was the funeral director director who had a laboratory (preparation (preparation room) lo carry out this task. They also accepted responsibility responsibility lor oilier aspects ol the funeral arrangements; ev erything from transportation, to flowers and newspaper announcements. announcements. As a result of such changes, Ihe whole emphaçis ol the funeral funeral director's profession has changed. While once he was primarily a supplier of merchandise, merchandise, Ihe funeral director' is now mostly concerned with providing needed services lo bereaved families.
