Our condolences condolences go out to Eileen and family. Eileen also lost her father a few days before George passed on. George had been very active in the community community for the past 10 years. He served on the Hall board, rising to chairman, helped at bingos and at banquets; he was always there pitching in. George played for the senior soccer team in his younger days and will always be remembered remembered for his warmth and pleasant smile. Last Sunday evening saw the annual Christmas concert for the Sunday School, at the hall. The nursery class put on the nativity scene, while the primary class depicted a play called "Merry Christmas," as well as singing three carols. The juniors came up with the "Mystery of the Bells," and the intermediates presented a play entitled "Santa Slugged in a Sleigh Sabotage." Sounds like a replay of events happening happening in the far east. After the sabotage, the group was able to muster up enough strength to sing two carols. Finally, the teachers went to the stage and did their thing. The rock group was called "Solina Maxi Pops." This group was brought from the big apple, at no expense to the Sunday School. The "Maxi Pops" sang three of their big hits of the 80's. Number one was Santa's Coming to Town, second - Kissing Santa Claus, and Rocking Around the Christmas Tree. The evening was capped off by the visit of Santa Claus, who made a pre- Christmas visit. Next Sunday will be the White Gift Sunday. On November 27, at the Lions Centre in Newcastle, the Town of Newcastle Citizen of the Year awards were given out. Two of the five winners were Sharyn Barkey, who was nominated by the Solina W.I., Herb Tink was another winner, winner, and was nominated by the Solina Hall Board. David Johnson, Chief Administrator of the Town of Newcastle, read a list of the winners' contribution made to their communities. Solina salutes Sharyn and Herb for their tireless efforts in making our community so successful. Solina Seven are sitting in second spot in a 10 tram league. Last week, Solina was able to take one point against Tyrone. The following is a list of teams in the league; Tyrone Hi-C's, Haydon Farm Boys, Enniskillen Alley Cats, Maple Grove, Salem, Rurals and Solina Seven. With three weeks to go in the first half, it is nice to be sitting in the top half. However, a couple of bad nights and the first thing you know, you have to play catch up ball again arid that means striking out!! In that last statement, you would think that I have mixed up two different sports. Tyrone will hold a Christmas Christmas dance on Saturday, December 14, from 9 p.m; to 1 a.m. Len will be producing the sound, followed by a light lunch. Hold on to your tickets for door prizes. Solina Hall Board will hold their annual New Year's Eve dance on December 31. The music and hi-jinks will be by Frank Barkey. A hot and cold' buffet will be awaiting you downstairs after you have worked up a good appetite. PONTYPOOL Rev. Heather Smith's sermon sermon message for the first Sunday in Advent was based on different types of waiting, and what we can do while we are waiting. Children, in their excitement for Christmas, think the time remaining is too long, while adults think there is not sufficient time for all that needs to be done. We were urged to give some thought to the real meaning of Christmas, Christmas, or we will have arrived on December 26th, with a let down feeling, as if we had missed something special, in spite of all our preparations. The Advent Wreath was introduced and its significance significance discussed. The Jeffery family lit the first of four candles, which is purple, and stands for repentance: The mitten tree, donated by Richardson Farms, was in place. We thank them very much. Rev. Smith has talked by telephone to Crossroads in Peterborough, and warm children's clothing, such as socks, mittens, scarfs, etc. would be acceptable as well as toys. The dates and times for our special Christmas service, already mentioned in my columns, were outlined on the bulletin as a reminder for the congregation. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ben- ford are pleased, to announce the engagement of their daughter, Angela Lee Ward, to Glen Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs. Morley Wright, of Janet- ville. On Monday, December 2nd, the bowling was cancelled because of weather conditions. conditions. A look will be taken at the team standings on Monday, Monday, December 9th. If there is a close race at the end of play for that day, an extra Wednesday Wednesday afternoon will be taken to obtain clear results for the Fall season, before the Christmas Christmas break. The Gift Studio at the Harwood Harwood residence, will be open regular hours until Christmas, including Sundays, and hopefully hopefully a new location will be found for the shop elsewhere in the vicinity sometime in the New Year. An expanded facility facility is anticipated. Floral supplies will still be available by appointment. Please telephone telephone Bernie Harwood at 277-2308. The Pontypool Weight and Friendship Group is having a lovely windup of a year's activities, such as a shopping trip to Oshawa. However, in the New Year, we would welcome welcome new members. Both parts of our name are important. important. You can either lose or gain weight, and help us out with your encouagement and ideas. If you are new to the community, it is a good way to meet some neighbors who are fun loving, with like interests of your own. Please call either Pam Molly at 277-2078 or Gloria Dunford at 277-2982. I have mentioned this before, but it bears repeating. For those of you who have relatives in retirement homes, senior citizens' apartments and nursing homes, please plan a Christmas visit. They can be very lonely, seeing other people with visitors and them with none, especially the first season in residence. There were two events by neighboring churches on Saturday, Saturday, November 30th, of interest to describe, in the afternoon, in spite of uncertain uncertain weather conditions, the St. Thomas More Parish ladies held a very successful bazaar in the Grace Presby terian Church basement. The Catholic Women's League manned tables set around the room and there was a corner for complimentary coffee or tea and cookies. Congratulations Congratulations for a job well done. It seemed to be well patronized by Millbrook residents and from villages in the surrounding surrounding community, including Pontypool. The winners of the St. Thomas More Parish bazaar raffle were: 1st prize Michael Duclos, Montreal, Quebec; 2nd prize Christie Ratcliffe, Pontypool; 3rd prize Helen Heard, Kingston, Ontario; those tickets sure went a long way. On Saturday evening, there was a nice crowd to attend another' one of BallydufHs famous concerts. There was â variety of skills and interest shown in the program. There were choral numbers to begin and end the evening, a Scottish Scottish reading by Ruth Jennings of Bethany, a display of slides of her tour of Jerusalem by Susan Swann, the minister's daughter. There were a couple of songs by a guest soloist who was brought by Rev. Swann. Father Walsh and the Rat- cliffes played and sang a few numbers. At the close of the concert, the ladies had a cup of tea and squares prepared, to enjoy a brief social hour. Congratulations to Debbie and Don Timms for starting a family on Monday, December 2nd. A formal birth announcement announcement will be forthcoming shortly through the classified ads section. Everyone fine. Winnie Strong is now back in Peterborough Civic Hospital. At the moment of writing, she is still in the Emergency Department, Department, awaiting a bed. The United Church Women, a few ladies from the community, community, the Catholic ladies, guests from Ballyduff, Bethany (including our minister) minister) and Bailieboro, enjoyed a delicious Pot Luck luncheon and brief program on Wednesday Wednesday noon, December 4th, in the church basement. Fran Ratcliffe and Pam Molloy led in the singing of a few carols, Fran playing the guitar. This is always an interesting event. There always seems to be a good balance of hot and cold main dishes and mouthwatering mouthwatering desserts.
