Dr. James Beal, Lindsay, Ontario, at the open session of the well attended Women's Events at Harmony United Church on Tuesday evening, November 5,1985. The Rev. Dr. Beal, who is the Bay of Quinte Conference Minister of Personnel, led about eighty women through the development of the theme "Saved and Spent" during the two-day event. Introduction of the theme was made through the topic "Signs of Our Times". "We look at signs to give some hope to the future. In the midst of chaos all Christians are called to be bearers of hope and promise", said Dr. Beal. "Ministry of people is the calling of the whole people of God", declared Dr. Beal. Words of welcome and greeting were expressed by Pat Mathieu, President of Harmony United Church Women, Pat Beach, President of the Oshawa Presbyterial U.C.W., the Rev. John May, Minister of Harmony United Church, and Gwen Wentland, Eganville, Ont., President of Bay of Quinte Conference U.C.W. Worship on the first morning was led by Oshawa ladies and on Wednesday by Renfrew ladies. Each of the seven Presbyterials, Belleville, Cobourg, Kingston, Lindsay, Oshawa, Peterborough and Renfrew, gave presentations in connection with banners prepared on various biblical themes. Interest groups included music, films, books, and "talk time" with Shelley Wright, Oshawa, on Korea, James Beal on various subjects, and Harriet Mubanga, , Zambia, on Zambia. Music throughout the event was led by Phyllis Barr arid pianist Dawn Chambers, both of Cannifton, Ont. The closing communion service was conducted by Dr. James Beal. An offering was given to the "Lazarus II" organization. Appreciation was expressed to Dr. Beal by Linda Harrison, Kingston. Joyce Stephenson, Cannington, thanked the events committee and introduced the new co ordinator, Jacquelin Guthrie of Audley, in the Oshawa Presbytery.
