Jim Avery and Scott Rekker were in the vestibule at the beginning of the service to greet the people as well as taking up the offering. There was one announcement announcement for Christmas Eve. The service will be held at Enniskillen at 7:00 p.m. After the White Gift service, Pastor Joe asked us to show our thanks to the organist, Mrs. Ulah Chambers and teachers of the Sunday School and the pupils as well. We gave them a hearty clapping of hands. At this point in the service, Pastor Joe told us the story of long ago how there were children who were playing and got extra warm and they shed their heavy sweaters, mittens, hats and coats and laid them on the grove of trees. There came children who were less fortunate jand didn't have heavy clothes to keep them warm arid, they were very Happy to get things . to keep themselves a lot warmer, The more fortunate children watched in amazement "how the other children were trying on their clothes. From then on there is a custom of having a mitten tree service where we fortunate people decorate the bare tree with mitts, scarfs and hats for those who do not have too much. Our tree was beautifully decorated from top to bottom with loads . of Photographically Speaking . . . woolleys for the Salvation Army children. I understand after the service that it was so loaded that the tree fell over, it was so top heavy. Here, the vertical lines of the ladder and the slowly dying old elm tree (plus the vertical format used) stand in marked contrast to the horizontal lines of the horizon and the woven wire fence.
