Mayor Bob Attersley of Whitby and Mayor Jerry Taylor of Scugog have been reappointed to the Durham Regional Police Commission in spite of a protest on reappointment reappointment of the two by the Durham Regional Police Association. The United Way . fund raising campaign for its thirty-nine agencies has reached the $2 million mark and could reach $2.2 million by the time all monies are submitted. submitted. Armen Arkelian, campaign chairman said it has been a fantastic campaign with canvassers working hard throughout Whitby, Oshawa and Newcastle. It may be the season for having a good time but think twice next time you step in your car after imbibing .too many rum and egg nogs. Police officers from Durham Region will be on the road again this year with their ALERT machines, on the lookout lookout for impaired drivers. The Durham Recycling Centre has set up a drop-off centre for waste material that can be recycled in the Orono area in the Town of Newcastle works yard off Taunton Road just west of Highway 115. The centre has been in operation for almost a month and is open to the public Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Partak Ltd., of Cobourg has been awarded a $10,500 contract to renovate two rooms at the Bowmanville Public Library. No local firms bid on the contract, according to the council. Following a volleyball game, Lionel Parker, Publicity and Recruitment Committee member, handed out presents to the little brothers, assisted by Pat Bagnell, CHUM Committee member. The party concluded with snacks and pop. Video Midgets Beat Markham 5-1 On Dec. 10th, the Toros played host to Markham, defeating them 5 -1. This was a solid effort by the Toros. Scoring a hat trick for the Toros was Mike Knight. The other goals were scored by John Edmondson and Ian Wheelock. Earning assists were Dan Annis three, Mike Colwell, David Zoleman, Michael Houston and Rob Davidson. On Dec. 14th, the Hooked^ on-Video Midgets travelled to Oshawa to come up short by one goal in a close game that could have gone either way. Scoring the goals were David Zoleman and Michael Houston. Gaining assists were Mike Knight two, and Michael Houston. Phil Bird played superb in net in this game.' On Dec. 15th, we played host to Manvers, skating to a four • all tie. Rob Davidson hit the mark twice with Michael Houston and David Morrison scoring the other goals. The assists went to Ian Wheelock three, David Zoleman and Rob Davidson. This coming weekend, the ' Midgets will be playing in the Oshawa LNHL Tournament. Good luck boys! On Nov. 16, J 4 J exploded to a 6 - 1 drive over Lange's. Garth Browes opened the scoring on a pass from Paul De Jager and Len Coates. From that point on J & J never looked back. Craig Rickard earned himself a hat trick with three assists from Sean Brown and two from Billy Coggins. Tyson Pearcey made a good move on a face-off as he moved in high in the slot and scored. Billy Coggins was V & G Wins 3rd Game in Row Over Adam & Eve Following on the heels of a 5 to 4 victory over Carter's Bakery Bandits on December 7th, Victoria and Grey hung on to defeat Adam and Eve by a score of 4 to 3 on December 14th. Adam and Eve opened the scoring in the first period but Victoria and Grey came back with goals by Chris Heffernan and Ryan Healey to end the period leading 2 to 1. Adam and Eve then tied the game early in the second period, but goals by Chris Hefferman (his second of the game) and Andrew Ferguson gave Victoria and Grey a 4 to 2 lead. Adam and Eve scored the only goal- of the third period and threatened to tie the game in the final three minutes but a couple of key saves by Ryan Pooley prevented prevented them from salvaging the tie. Saturday, Nov. 30, London Life outplayed J 4 J for the entire game. J 4 J seemed to have forgotten all the basics of team play, letting London Life score two quick goals in the first period. Sean Brown scored J 4 J's only goal. London Life scored late in the third period. Great playing London Life. On Tuesday, Dec. 3, J 4 J and Ontario Hydro played a very fast moving game. Although J 4 J out-played Hydro, Hydro managed to connect on two goals. It' was nice to see J 4 J getting back into their style of hockey. On Saturday, Dec. 14, 401 Esso gave J 4 J a run for a period and a half. Robert West opened J 4 J's scoring midway midway through the second period Craig Rickard did some great digging around the net to assist on Robert's goal. Garth Browes played his position well and scored twice with both assists going to Michael Suess. Congratulations J 4 J for a fine team effort and anotner shut-out for Jamie Rekker.
