> f 8 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, December 18,1985 Cdn. Tire Bantams Split Recent Games I'ort Hope, Dec. 13 Mark Tripp once again showed his scoring ability as he notched six goals, as he and his teammates buried Port Hope 10 - 3. In a lack luster first period, Bowmanville's Gareth Stone^ scored the only goal of the period assisted by Mark Tripp and Rob Real. The goal was the result of a nice three-way passing play finished off by Stone, In the second period, the Canadian Tire Club netted three more goals to take a 4 - 0 lead. Mark Tripp accounting for two of them, the first assisted by Gareth Stone and Rob Real and Nicky Dennis picked up the lone assist on Tripp's second marker. Craig DeBlois made it 4 - 0 with just eighteen seconds left in the period as he and Tony Van Hoof along with Dean Baumhauer got a power-play goal. Mark Tripp started the scoring in the third as he picked up a short handed goal when Stephen Smith was sent off for Tripping. Dean Baumhauer and Troy Mutton assisted. Port Hope made it a 5 - 1 score as they got on the score sheet with a power-play marker by Dean Symons. Bowmanville then got the next four goals to take a commanding 9 - 1 lead as Mark Tripp got three of the goals and Dean Baumhauer notching the other. With a 9 - 1 lead as Mark Tripp got three of the goals and Dean Baumhauer notching the other. With a 9 -1 lead, the Toros seemed to ease up and this allowed Port Hope to skate around at will in the Bowmanville Bowmanville end which resulted in goal to make it 9 - 2. Port Hope made it a 9 - 3 game with fifty-seven seconds left in the period. Bowmanville's Kevin Flintoff then broke up a three man rush by Port Hope and went in alone and fired a shot past the Port Hope goalie to finish off the scoring at 0:34 and give the Toros a 10 - 3 victory. Bowmanville, Dec. 14 In an exhibition game played here this afternoon, the "Canadian Tire" club couldn't hold on to a two goal lead and allowed Port Perry to come from behind for a 4 - 3 win. Bowmanville opened the scoring when Mark Tripp banged in a rebound after the Port Perry goalie stopped a hard drive of the stick of Gareth Stone. Rob Real (who started the rush) and Gareth Stone picked up the assists. Port Perry tied the game at the half-way mark of the first period beating Kevin Zarosky the starting Toro goalie. Bowmanville went ahead 2 - 1 on a nice second effort by Eric Janssens. Troy Mutton started the play and made the pass to Janssens who was well covered by the Port Perry defence. As the puck was at the corner of the net, Janssens fought off the two defenders and jammed the puck into the open corner. In the second period, both teams had ample scoring chances but some solid goaltending goaltending at both ends of the ice kept it a close game. Tony Van Hoof gave the Toros a 3 -1 lead when he and Kevin Flintoff combined on a power-play goal near the end of the second period. Port Perry pulled to within one goal as they opened the scoring in the third. They then tied the game at 3 - 3 after Burke Lush made a great stop and the Bowmanville Bowmanville defenseman couldn't clear the rebound as the Port Perry player put it into the open net. Greg Goode had a chance to put the Toros back into the lead when he picked up an errant pass and went in alone on the goalie, only to lose control of the puck at the last second as it seemed to roll off his stick just as he was getting ready to shoot. Port Perry got the go-ahead goal with just over two minutes remaining in the game for a 4 - 3 come from behind victory.
