MIX CAUTION WITH MEDICATION While most people are aware of the dangers of drinking and driving, many do not realize that even some common cold remedies also don't mix with driving. Inattention, confusion, confusion, sluggishness and drowsiness are all side effects of certain prescription and non-prescription medications. You should be aware how your body reacts to different drugs before attempting to drive a car, boat, motorcycle or any other motorized vehicle. Sedatives and tranquilizers require particular caution as they not only slow reaction time but cause inattentiveness as well. Cold remedies, especially the hot drink types, often cause drowsiness • and should be taken only when you're planning to stay at home. Cough medicines, nasal sprays and even some headache headache preparations can also cause unwanted reactions. Don't let these side effects be unexpected; carefully read the label before use. Your pharmacist or physician physician would welcome your questions about the relationship relationship of prescription and over- the-counter drugs to driving, and gladly identify medications medications that require caution. ALLERGIES AND SIDE EFFECTS Isn't it great to be able to stop and smell the summer roses? However, millions of Canadians Canadians can't because their body chemistry is different from yours and mine. They have allergies. It's the allergic reaction - differences in body chemistry - that can also make one person's medication another person's discomfort. If you use non-prescribed or prescribed medications, and most of us do, be aware of side effects and know when to take action. Drug side effects can range from mild drowsiness to a violent reaction. Sometimes it's worth tolerating the drowsiness and sluggishness brought on by a medication rather than suffering the ailment. If a drug does make you sleepÿ., avoid driving and other activities that demand keen awareness. But if a drug side effect makes the curé worse than the malady, don't hesitate to call your physician or pharmacist. In most cases a similar medication can be substituted giving you the benefits of the drug without discomfort. Some very common medications, such as penicillin penicillin or headache remedies can trigger fierce reactions in people whose body chemistry is allergic to them. If you know that you can't.tolerate a specific drug, wear a Medic- Alert tag as a precaution. Today's drugs are often complex concoctions, skillfully skillfully formulated and prepared to assist your body in combating specific ailments.
