Fellowship Meeting for St. Saviour's Reverend Douglas Hall, Tim Yates, Steve Johnson and Ron Johnson arrived early Friday afternoon. Charlie Hester, Gordon Leek, Mike Collyer and Bob Nichols arrived later. The first sight on our arrival, was the Admiral falling from his perch on the dock. He claims he tripped over a guyrope, but a Mexican arrived for a trip and maybe this upset the Admiral into believing there would be a meeting aboard the ship. However, everything everything turned out O.K. and the Admiral survived his first encounter with all his crew on board. Upon rising Saturday morning everyone was on deck at 0600 hrs, but the Admiral Admiral slept in until 0715 hrs. After a severe reprimand and threats, everything was settled peacefully and forgiveness forgiveness was the order of the day. Our week-end of fishing, fishing, a total of 55-65 bass were caught and of course thrown back, however some of our parishioners think our stories may be inflated! Gordon Leek had the best catch, Saturday afternoon after one hour and five minutes minutes of tugging, and a spool line for trout fishing, ended up in a ball, and he realized he was "snagged". (This ends our fish stories). But of . .course Charlie Hester's stories stories never end, and we all enjoy enjoy Charlie's humor. » y Saturday evening we had reservations at the. Pine Stone Inn for supper and guess what, the day's special "Shark". Now we are not sure, but rumor has it, it was caught local! How's that for a big one? However everyone everyone enjoyed their supper. We parted company ana headed for home, for our Parish Picnic Picnic held in beautiful Orono Park, on Sunday. We would all like to thank Steve and June Johnson for the use of their cottage and also like to thank Ron Johnson Johnson for his kindness in operating operating the boats, and showing where to catch alVthose bass we threw back! The Admiral has been heard to say, there certainly will be more "spit and polish" among the crew the next time, and certainly more accuracy accuracy on the fish catches! Happy Fishing - St. Saviours Saviours Fellowship Group. Just three decades ago, your decisions in buying a camera were limited. You cither did or you didn't. Today, things aren't quite so cut and dry. Walk into any camera store and you'll find scores of different camera brands and models to choose from. Like their predecessors of 30 years, they do so much more effectively. Today's array of high-tech cameras makes it nearly impossible impossible to ruin a whole roll of film. In fact, it's getting more and more difficult to miss a single shot. These wonders of modem modem technology come equipped with such impressive features as automatic exposure, auto focus, auto film rewind at the end of the roll, auto flash, and auto film indexing. Just drop the roll of film into the camera and it automatically sets itself to . the proper ASA. With all that automation, there is still one decision you have to make--which format to buy. Here's a look at several camera types from which to choose. 35 mm Single Lens Reflex. The most popular camera in the world, the single lens reflex (SLR) uses a widely available, inexpensive 35 mm film. The camera Utilizes interchangeable interchangeable lenses for a wide variety of applications. Use a .long telephoto lens for nature and long distance shots; a short telephoto for flattering portraits; a moderate wide-angle lens for group shots; or an ultra-wide-angle lens for special effects and interior photos. Or choose a versatile zoom lens that extends from wide-angle to telephoto...all the lens you're likely to need wrapped into a single package. It's an excellent excellent camera for the serious photographer or the amateur who likes to rclain'.control over his subject. " Compact 35 mm. Another camera that, uses 35 mm film, the compact is smaller than its SLR cousin, fitting comfortably comfortably into a purse or pocket, making it easy to carry almost almost anywhere. It's lightweight and easy to operate, although although it features a noninlcrchangcablc lens which limits its versatility. (A few compact 35s offer the choice of a telephoto telephoto or wide-angle selling in addition to the normal lens.) This is an excellent takc-anywhcrc camera for quick grab shots. Medium Format Single Reflex. Similar to a compact 35 mm, this medium-formal camera uses larger 120/ 220-size film, resulting in larger negatives and transparencies. transparencies. That means you gel sharp enlargements to greater sizes than from the smaller fomiat of 35 mm film, although 120/ 220 film is less widely available and more costly. As might be expected, both camera and auxiliary lenses carry higher price tags than their smaller counterparts. Hut for the serious amateur and professional photographer the enhanced picture quality is well worth the extra cost. Compact Disc. A descendant of the 110 cartridge camera, the disc is lightweight and compact, utilizing 15- exposure flat film discs which are widely available and relatively relatively inexpensive. Disc cameras feature simple point-and- shoot operation ideal for good quality snapshots, although the small- negative limits enlargements to modest proportions. proportions. ' 110 Cartridge. Still popular with amateur camera buffs, most 110 cartridge cameras are fixed-focus, sinrplc-to- opcralc instruments using widely available, relatively inexpensive inexpensive 110-sized film. Like disc models, they're basically a snap-shooter's camera, with limited potential for producing photos for enlargement. knowledge? Metro politi dans want their land for housing and tax dollars and dump their garbage on someone else. But, who cares about us farm folk as we are small in number and could be railroaded to sell our property if and when the big city of Metro wags its tail. How is it that Metro can come down here and use scare tactics on these land- owners by offering them three times the market value of their property right now or they will EXPROPRIATE at a later date. These smell like blackmail practices to me. How much will the property around this site be worth when a dump is at our back door? How come Sam Cureatz moved away from the area? Did he have first hand knowledge about the proposed dump site? When you pick up the paper, paper, or turn the radio or T.V. on you hear about how much productive farm land that is being taken up for housing and landfill sites. When are these dim-wit politicians politicians going to get their heads out of the sand and back to reality? As long as the garbage is not in tneir backyard is all they seem to give a damn about. The land in question is both sides of Morgan Road south of the 401, east to Jaynes Road and west to Adams Road which amounts to around 1000 acres of prime farmland on the shores of Lake Ontario. I decided there and then that I would speak out loud and clear what I expect elected people, of all levels of government to do for this taxpayer and her family, so they can spend our money wisely for our best interest. Our best interests interests are: fresh water, fresh air, a protection of the natural natural forest, agriculture community community our family loves so much. Our great grandparents grandparents and grandparents settled in Hope ana Clarke Townships and their love for this forest and river country make us the strong minded citizens we are. We know what we want and what our creator intends for us to do. I would like to ask Mr. Sam Cureatz, M.P.P. for Durham East what he is doing doing to stop this garbage from coming into our area? National National Environment Day held Sunday at Wilmont Creek, to the best of my knowledge, was the first time I have ever seen Sam at any meeting I have attended- concerning the dump issues I am involved with, in the last 12 years. It makes one wonder why? I was reading a report "#83-147 to the Planning Department Department to amend Durham Regional Official Plan re Regional Regional Reclaimers Limited File #83-81D to designate lands to permit a Waste Disposal Disposal operation", and on page 4-77 in the section "submissions Received by the Town of Newcastle 4.3.2.", petitions have been the pronise of big c ' guess wna na\ increased by aoout /uuyo. ou 4.3.^. -, petitions nave neen I say, are we going to stand; received by the Town of by and do nothing, while re-' Newcastle with respect to this issue. We love the pure spring water water taste and so ao people who normally only have access access to city water. Man cannot cannot survive without fresh water! We know there is a garbage garbage crisis but, we the people of the urban area do not feel it should be loaded into a site with the lovely Graham Creek flowing right by it and the rocks so covered with algae algae that neighbourhood children children don't swim there like they were used to do a few years back. The Golden Rule I remind you is:"Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You." We all have to work to reduce reduce the garbage, but putting putting it near these watersheds is not the answer. We do not want the sickness the Stouff- ville Dump caused its neighbours neighbours to endure until they finally finally won the fight to remove their dump. I wonder wonder where their garbage is going? Garbage goes out but is there someone monitoring closely what comes into one's community. I wonder? Up to now all reports have turned the Laidlaw Site down as being environmentally environmentally unsafe for a landfill site. Are we to believe the money spent to make all these tests a waste - Are they untrue? This area is still the same now as it was then. I also wonder - what about the lands Eldorado owns at Port Granby? No dump of ANY KIND should be anywhere near a major body of water or watershed - whether it is radio-active waste or municipal municipal waste. The late Mr. A. Carruthers, M.P.P. stated that garbage dumps should not be within a 10 to 20 mile radius of any lake or watershed. watershed. I was honoured to have Mr. Carruthers as my Sunday School Superintendant Superintendant and respected his word. Prime Minister Mulroney also states that no Nuclear Waste Dump should be anywhere anywhere near a MAJOR BODY OF WATER. We should listen to our Prime Minister. The Niagara County has had a grave problem and the Hon. John Eakins, Minister of Municipal Affairs is working working very hard to help them. Who is helping us to keep it out of our area?
