Can you name the four .other offensive offensive catégories in which Lemieux led the league? 9TH ANNUAL HEART FITNESS SWIM-February is Heart Month, and the Newcastle Fitness Centre is doing its part to help the worthy cause. Admission fees will be waived for participants in the Annual Heart Fitness Swim. The swim is designed to encourage encourage people to donate to a worth}' cause, while becoming becoming aware of their own heart fitness. Participants will swim for 30 minutes, and record their total distance travelled. Pledges collected will go to the Heart and Stroke Fund. Feb. 13 in Bowmanville Bowmanville at 7:30. , AUDIO VISION OLDTIMERS--The Bowmanville Audio Vision Oldtimers will be playing in the C.O.H.A. Labatt McMurtry Cup on February 2-4 in Scarborough. There will be 42 teams divided into seven seven divisions competing. After a lacklustre performance performance in Little Britain on Saturday night, the Red Birds came alive at home on Sunday to dull the Axemen 8-3. This victory was extra sweet after two losses on Ajax ice. A very erratic display was put on by the league leaders on Saturday night. Little Britain opened the scoring with a snorthanded goal, 3:23 into the first frame. Thirty-four seconds later, Trevor Newell lit the red light for Bowmanville on a set-up by Shane Armstrong Armstrong and Gareth Stone. The Eagles took the lead, and closed the scoring for the first period on an excellent excellent goal by Jeff Reynolds from Rohr. The Red Birds potted two quick ones in the second by Rohr from Reynolds and Robinson, with the fourth Eagles goal scored by Campbell Campbell from Kevin Mitchell. The Merchants responded with three markers, two on the power play while the Goodyear boys were killing a five minute major. The fifth Merchant goal was the result result of a glaring in-front-of- the-net pass by a red shirt. Just when it appeared that the Eagles were going to be sent back to their nest empty, Shane Armstrong centered a pass with the Eagles' Eagles' net empty and Gareth Stone hammered it home. J&J Wins Again On Saturday, January 27th, the B.R.H.L. atom hockey team sponsored by J&J Sharpening added another another win to their record when they defeated the team sponsored by 401 Esso. Although • the final score rested at 6-3, the teams proved to be evenly matched with goalies for both clubs being called upon to make some N.H.L. calibre saves. Nick Zdravkovski, in net for J&J Sharpening, gave a solid.performance, solid.performance, standing his ground' on two very threatening threatening breakaways. J&J winger, Darren Crawford started the scoring early in the opening period with his ouick wrist shot. Stephen Wraith and Brian Ball earned assists on this goal. However, before the period had ended, 401 Esso responded with two goals. The 2-1 lead for 401 Esso appeared to be carved in stone during the second period. period. In spite of some super passing and some very intense intense scrambles in front of the 401 net, the J&J sharpshooters sharpshooters were unable to foil netminder, Brandon Renton. Finally at the 3:46 mark, Chris Oyler who was positioned positioned in the slot, got the pass he needed from Phil Gushulak. Chris wasted no time driving the puck into the net. On Sunday night with the Axemen in town, Glen Campbell's line came alive scoring four, and Drew Al- lenby scored his second of the year. Nick Dennis scored two, Campbell and Shmyr one each, with all assisting on each others goals. Shane Armstrong potted two with assists from Rohr (2), Hartford Hartford and Stone. Gareth Stone also lit the light from the Armstrong boys. AROUND THE EAGLES NEST: Actually things have been a little flat and dull around the perch on the hill as the season wound down. Now it will be a whole new game. The play-offs are a different kettle of fish. On Thursday, January 25th the Heritage House Atoms Atoms travelled to Port Hope for an exhibition game prior to playoffs. Alter spotting the home team 2 goals, the Toros caught fire in the third period period to score 5 unanswered goals and won 5-2. Brent Strand scored our first assisted by Greg McMurter and Steve Brink- man, followed quickly by an unassisted goal from Greg McMurter. Chris Steele scored our third on assists from Brent Strand and Greg McMurter.
