These members of the Newcastle Figure Skating Club competed at the Unicorn Fair in Oshawa on February February 17. The Unicorn Fair is the skaters' first introduction introduction into competition and involves their first free skate solo. The skate-a-thon, on January January 26, was a great success as parents and children alike took to the ice striving for 100 laps or at least enjoying enjoying the skate. The monies raised will be a great plus for all club members. On February 2, at the Minden "Meet to Skate", we had our club represented by Nicole Norton and Megan Carter who placed 3rd and 4th respectively in their Beginner Beginner flight level. This was a free skate competition, and our girls did very well. This year's Rneridge Competition, February 10th and Uth, was hosted by the Port Perry Figure Skating Club. This is an interclub competition, made up of figures figures and freeskate components, components, and one of the highlights highlights of the skating season. The first place finishers go on to compete at EOSIC (Eastern Ontario Sectional Interclub Competition). ,, Newcastle had 10 entrants. entrants. Unit Leader Joanna Malcolm brought the meeting to order with a warm welcome to all. Carol Hill introduced introduced the guest speaker Kate Pearson from Denise House, Oshawa, who gave a very informative informative talk on the work of the Shelter. She was thanked by Carol and presented with a gift. The Roll Call was answered with many interesting stories and memories. Joanne led the worship worship period...then closing with a hymn, "Come, Let Us Sing of a Wonderful Love," followed by Prayer. Business A card was signed for Dennis and Karen Yellowlee's baby daughter Jennifer Melissa. Ian Davis gave the statement of the Treasurer. Kay Notman reported on the Farm Labour Pool dinner and a thank you note to be sent to Mr. Murray Colwell for donating potatoes for the dinner. Items of new business were discussed. The next meeting will be held at Joanna Malcolm's home, March 14th, to make Easter Eggs for sale. A lovely lunch was served by Janice, and sociability enjoyed. The hostess was thanked for the use of her home. Community Church Caesarea On a bright, very cold Sunday morning, Caesarea Community Church assembled with an average congregation. The guest speaker Ted Mallory of Kingston used as his sermon theme, "Men Who Looked Up," taken from text - Luke 21: 28 & Mark 8: 24. An ex cerpt from his message: whatever our situation; dark or light; sorrow or joy; never lose sight of God. Look Up! If we look up, it affects our outlook. Before the sermon Mr. Mallory sang a solo, "Remind Me, Dear Lord," accompanying himself on his guitar. Rev. Dr. Crawford read the Lessons and conducted the service. Kathleen Watts played the organ for the service. Congratulations! Congratulations! to Cartwright Central Concert Band...Grade 8...who were instrumental in winning winning the Cup for the third consecutive consecutive year...at the Sunderland Lion's , Club...Musical Festival this past week! Clare Notman had the honour of accepting the Cup! Also- Blackstock High School won First Prize with their Band and Congratulations to them as well. Following the service, a birthday birthday luncheon to celebrate the 89th Birthday of Mr. Stan Me Neely was held. Mr. Me Neely was accompanied accompanied by Ron Greenlaw, his nephew, Rachael and Pauline. Everyone happily enjoyed this time of fellowship with this venerable Presbyterian, and will hope he continues to enjoy good health, through many more years.
