On Saturday afternoon, we met and defeated the West Mall team 6-3. Don Rickard opened, the scoring with a bullet drive from the left side, assisted by Hugh German and Gerry Henderson. Henderson. The Toronto team then fought back with three unanswered unanswered goals. We, however, however, were not to be denied. The Rickard boys met Gerry Henderson up for his first goal. Then Geny was given a perfect pass' in front by Dean Avery and this unerring unerring marksman, fired a low shot to the corner. ,, ., ' Jim Rickard' barged his . way past a defenceman to ,,,t^s^wiper,;.;;'Dayid ureen ,scoi;edi c fwp, more ; to embark on what- y/as to be an eight.goal weekend for David. Ron Clemens , and Bob Deblois gained assists on the Green goals. In the second game, Saturday Saturday evening, we defeated the Mash team from Markham. Markham. This team is composed mainly of a group of rough crude and stubborn hockey players who also happen to be medical doctors. Although Although they were determined determined and the taste of defeat defeat was anathema to them, we forced them to swallow the bitter pill. -j Don Rickard out-battled two defenders behind the goal and gave Grant Flintoff a perfect pass in front which Grant banged home. David Green then capped a fine display of stick-handling to score the clincher. Art Hester Hester gained a well-deserved shut-out in this contest. After this game a Mash player, who identified himself himself as Peter, assured me in that confidant and patronising patronising manner that is often typical typical of the more arrogant and less sensitive members of the medical profession, that things would be different different when wo met in the championship game. With the geniality of nil retired teachers, I told him that we also looked forward to this eventuality. In the last game of the round robin, we met nnd defeated defeated the Bay Dukes from Pickering 7-3. Don Rickard again got us on track with the opening goal. Bob Sheridan Sheridan slapped in n rebound and David Green supported again by Bob Deblois and Ron Clemens scored three ns this lino put on a dazzling display of stick-handling nnd passing.. This courageous courageous defender was back in the game again after missing missing only one shift. Late in the contest, Bob Sheridan pursued a defender defender behind the goal, stripped him of the puck and knocked it to David Green who settled settled affairs with his eighth goal of the tournament. Hugh German who led our defense corps of Bob Hellam, Warren Townsley and Dean Avery was selected selected M.V.P. This is a well deserved deserved award for Hugh, a fine athlete, who has been consistently a dedicated, determined determined and talented performer performer all year. We extend a special thanks to Dean Avery, Jim and Don Rickard who joined our team for this tourney. Without their,. efforts, we. ^.cpuldnothave'béèricompeti- , . Before concluding my final final hockey column of the year, I must mention our • game last Wednesday against the Bowmanville Kinks, a game we won 15-7. In this game the line of De- •i blois, Green and Rohr produced produced 12 goals. David scored once and of course was highly highly instrumental in setting up Siegi for 4 and Bob for 7!
