Representatives of the Bowmanville Branch of the Royal Bank, David Cutway and Valerie Gardiner, visited the girls last week to discover if Rita was enjoying her exchange. Rita plans to recommend the experience to other members of 4H in her home province of Quebec. "It is an excellent excellent program for teaching and learning for the children. children. Their support has made quite a difference." When Karleen and Laurel Laurel were approached about hosting an exchange, they were asked to make sure Rita attended a few 4H meetings to provide her with a chance to learn more about clubs in this province. Rita said she found many differences between 4H's at home and here. One of the differences is the number of clubs mem- ■ bers of 4H can get involved with. ! In Quebec, Rita explained, explained, there - are" only three: handicraft, dairy and garden. In this area, Laurel stated, stated, there are 25 different clubs ranging from dairy and sheep to forestry and wildlife. "There, is a leadership club where you learn to speak in front of people. Both girls said they would go on another exchange exchange if they were given the opportunity. They said it was a chance to see different cultures and meet now people. Those remarks were echoed by Rita who said she has seen a lot of different things she wouldn't have had a chance to see. And she's met ninny people. Fifty persons across the country arc involved with the exchange this year. Spanish Students Anxious To Speak Our Language by Lisa C. Brown Blinca Suela and Natalia Fernaneez have come to Canada from Spain to learn English. The girls are part of a S of 41 Spanish stu- who are visiting Canada Canada through The Language Workshop. According to The Language Language Workshop's local coordinator, coordinator, Shirley Freek, "the students came to Canada Canada to expand their English. During the morning they study English at Henry St. High School and in the afternoon afternoon they go on tours etc." . While the girls are here, evenings and weekends are spent with local families. Mrs. Freek says that this "gives families a chance to learn about another culture and an opportunity for the student to practice their english." Debbie ten Grotenhuis is hosting Natalia because she "thought it would be nice to learn about Spain, what they eat, what the country side is like." Blinca Suela is staying with Kathy Thompson and her family. Mrs. Thompson thought that hosting a Spanish Spanish student would, give me a good idea of what it will be like to have a teenager in the house." Natalia is 19 and became involved in the program after after meeting a friend who used to go to Ireland. "I decided to go to Ireland and learn English, and I went there for three summers. summers.
