Shirley Brooks Reader Hopes To Maintain Small Town Dear Sir: I am a new homeowner to Bowmanville but not a stranger. I've read your paper over the years with considerable interest and in some cases envy. I really do hope that the various councils are very selective selective in their choice of so called "progressive" innovations. innovations. It is the semi-rural ambience of the area that is so enticing to everyone. The town now is a friendly open, beautiful place to bring up a family with none or veiy little little of the problems of lager places. For those who want city features, they should either move to a city or visit one but don't wish them on this area. The whole attitude of the town would be lost. It's too bad you couldn't have applications to live here. In this manner the population could be kept to a manageable number and all the desirable features would not be lost. Once they are gone they are irretrievable. irretrievable. Bigger is definitely not better. What is the point of moving moving out of a city and then trying to bring the city here with all its isolation attitudes. attitudes. Construction would serve this purpose. The value value of community spirit is coming-or being appreciated back to the cities. It's here already. Please, please don't allow it to be changed. By the way, I've enclosed my subscription for a year along with payment. Yours truly, Ruth M. Seymour. nudged Margaret Todd's score, followed by Leona Wright, Mary Thompson, Ruby Cochrane, Pearl Clark. Ladies Low Win Brown, Men's Low Fred Griffin, 50- 50 Draw Ruby Griffin, Leona Leona Wright. Special Prizes: a gentleman named Manny whose last name defied Anglo Anglo Saxon spelling abilities, we are sorry; Harold Swain, Bob Corneal, Bernice Soper. There were thirteen tables tables of euchre in play at the Old Tyrone Hall on Monday evening, August 6, 1990, with the following results: John Kuyer 88, Charlie Campbell 86, Eileen Warder 82, Barb Cochrane 81, Ruby Griffin 80, Olive Little 45. Special prizes Ross McRo- berts, Olive Little, John Kuyer, Earla Hill. A Wedding is a Good Excuse to Travel In the late 1930's my uncle, uncle, Herbert Yeo, went West to seek his fortune. On July 14, 1940, he married a lovely lovely Western girl called Dean- nie whose name I found out only recently is Geraldine. Other of my uncles "rode the rails" and joined harvest crews out West in the '30's, but Herb was the only one who remained. On July 14, 1990, Lorelle Yeo, daughter of Mrs. Lena Yeo and the late Delbert Yeo, granddaughter granddaughter of Herb and Dean- nie Yeo, married Kevin Meyer, at, Prince Abert, Saskatchewan. In less than the best of health, Uncle Herb and Aunt Deannie Yeo , Prince Abert Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan, marked their 50th wedding anniversary in significant significant ways and were honoured honoured at the wedding of their granddaughter Lorelle and her groom, Kevin. Herb and Deannie were joined at their reception meal table by Delbert and Mary Yeo, Russell Russell Yeo, Gordon and Charlotte, Charlotte, Yeo, Oshawa, and Violet Violet Reynard, Cameron, Ontario. Mrs. Rita (Reynard) (Reynard) Henry, my husband, Paul Vaneyk, and I also felt it was a good reason to journey journey westward and join the festivities. We were guests at the gift-opening party at the home of Mrs. Lena Yeo on Sunday, July , 15, 1990.
