On Saturday evening, September 15, at Browns- dale Community Centre, a retirement dinner and dance was held in honour of Maiy Pek who served customers at the Newcastle Branch of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce for eighteen years. Present and former staff members attended this happy event. Mr. J. McLaughlan, manager, was Master of Ceremonies. Mary was presented with a silver gallery tray, gold locket and earrings, dinner and theatre tickets and overnight accommodation accommodation when she and her husband attend the theatre. News and Events from Clarke High School Your Future Starts Here From the Principal This week at Clarke High School began with the election election of class representatives for the Student Council. The Student council, under under the leadership of Barb Byers, Prime Minister and Mr. Petlock, staff advisor is planning many extracurricular extracurricular events such as dances and facilitate many clubs and organizations. The class representatives work with the executive to make Clarke High School a more enjoyable place for students. As well the Student Council allows the students to develop develop their leadership skills and gain experience in decision decision making and planning. On Thursday, many parents parents of Grade 9 students came to school at 7:00 p.m. to follow their student's timetable, in a shortened form, and meet the teachers and better understand what their students study. At this meeting the Parents Parents Association gave out information information about their plans for the coming year. Newcastle Lions Begin New Year On Wednesday, Sept. 12, President Don Oke presided as the Newcastle Lions met for their first meeting of the 1990-91 Lions Year. Lion Don reported that the opening for 1st Vice had been filled by Lion R.B. Rickard and the one-year directorship directorship vacated by him would be filled by Lion Joe Mendonca. The dance committee re- E orted that the Hallowee'en lance will be held on October October 27th at the Newcastle Community Hall. Tickets for the New Year's Dance will be $80 per couple this year. The stag committee has tickets ready for the annual stag on Friday, Nov. 23rd at the Newcastle Community Hall. The programme committee committee has planned a tour of General Motors for October 24th with dinner to be served in the executive dining dining room. President Don called a special budget meeting for September 13th with all committee heads and executive executive members to attend.
