Bus Trip A very enjoyable bus trip, sponsored by Bowmanville Museum Board took place Sat., Sept. 29, with a full load of passengers. We travelled to Graven- hurst and thoroughly enjoyed enjoyed a conducted tour of the birthplace of the late Dr. Norman Bethune (whose life has is the subject of a recent movie). Dr. Bethune's father was a Presbyterian minister and the house was built in 1880. Norman was bom in 1890 and lived in the house for three years. The Dept, of External Affairs purchased the home in 1973 and its complete restoration, as a memorial to Dr. Bethune, was undertaken by Parks Canada. Of antique interest locally, locally, there were two caned- bottomed chairs, made here in Bowmanville. The lovely old parlor organ was manufactured manufactured in nearby Uxbridge. Uxbridge. Following the tour, a video video was shown of his live as a doctor in China. Sam McLaughlin spent his childhood years. The Enniskillen 4-H Group is under way for Fall with a program of Bread Venture. The members are learning the techniques of bread making and enjoying many different types of breads, under the capable leadership of Lynn Piggott, Carol Christie and Kim Lee.
