The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 31,1990 9 |Eagles Keep Win Streak Alive Geranium Homes Tames Family Trust Tigers by Brad Kelly If opposites attract, then Hockey Night in Canada broadcaster Harry Neale and Eagle coach Mike Noo- .rian should be best of friends. At one time during his coaching career, Neale said that his team couldn't win at home, couldn't win on the road, and didn't play anywhere anywhere else. With Noonan's Eagles, it's the exact opposite. They completed a three- game sweep over the weekend weekend with a win against Port Perry and two over Cobourg. Seemingly, the Eagles can't lose anywhere they play. They ran their undefeated undefeated string to eight games on the season with a 9-8 win Friday night in Port Perry, a 7-3 win Sunday at home to Cobourg, and in the return match in Cobourg on Monday, Monday, they won again, this . time 6-2. On Sunday night, the Ea- . gles were full value for the win, as they owned the Cougars Cougars in every aspect of the game. They controlled the game to the point that Cou- bourg appeared lethargic, and much like a cat facing a dog, wanted nothing to do with the confrontation. "I was surprised they didn't with fui: squad and considering their record, they didn't show us much," said assistant coach Paul Reed as he put the game into proper perspective. perspective. ^ Eagle rookie Trevor Lorn Lorn ath, who counted two goals on the night, was also surprised by the lack of effort effort from Cobourg. "I expected more from them and thought it would be a better game," he said. "I think we're beginning to mold as a team every game and that's a good sign." The two teams traded goals early in the first period, period, but a powerplay marker by Lorn ath with 2:47 remaining remaining gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead. Shane Armstrong, on the power play, and Jeff Rohr were the other Eagle marksmen. marksmen. Kevin Williams had both of Cobourg's goals. Scott Penton put the Eagles Eagles up by two goals in the second period as his slapshot slapshot from the point went through a maze of players and past Cobourg goalie Jason Jason Riehl. Glen Campbell scored the Eagles' fifth goal, their third of the night on thé power play, when he broke down the right side and- beat Riehl with a shot to the far side. We had a lot of guys working tonight, one was sick, and another is away on a college placement." placement." With each game, Lomath continues to be one of the many offensive leaders for the Eagles. His offensive prowess has been a surprise to everyone but himself. "I'm happy about my play. I've got my confidence back, and I'm not running around trying to hit everybody everybody like I was earlier in the season." Whatever the reason for his improved play, the coaching staff is glad that he is starting to come around. "He's starting to get more confidence, ana he^ learning learning a lot from the others," assessed Reed. "I think he was a one- man-show in midget and that's the way he started in the beginning with us. Now he's playing aggressive and together with his linemates, and that is why he's getting the ice time."
