Spearheading a group wanting to relocate their time-out mornings, Mrs. Allin Allin has appeared before Newcastle Village Community Community Hall Board. She did this in an effort to secure one of the rooms being vacated by the Newcastle Village Library Library when it moves. The group would also like to set up a parent-child resource drop-in centre. Adequate off-street parking parking space, easy access and high visibility to people in the community are just a few of the reasons for the proposed move. However, the relocation has not yet been finalized. OBITUARY Samuel Carr Born in Saskatchewan, Samuel Carr, aged 69, died in Oshawa General Hospital, Hospital, on Sunday, October 7, 1990. He had been ill for approximately approximately one year. The son of Percy and Elizabeth Carr, he was educated educated at Frankford, and on May 9,1959, was married to Mary L. Cryderman. He had been employed for 20 years by Duplate, Oshawa, retiring 18 years ago. He was a member of the United Church, and served in the army from 1941-1945. A resident at 1221 Simcoe Simcoe St. N., Oshawa for 10 years, he had previously resided resided at R.R.1, Enniskillen. Surviving arc his wife- Mary, a daughter Shirley Allen, Allen, three grandchildren, sisters sisters Pearl Foley and Betty Adams, and brothers Mike and Jim Can'. Tho Reverend Douglas S. Warren officiated at the funeral funeral service hold on Wednesday at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, Bowmanville. Bowmanville. Pallbearers were nephews nephews Larry Cryderman, Dale Frcitag, Wnyno Loger, Dwayne Foley, Gary Rivers and David Parnnuk. Interment Bothcsdn Cemetery. Cemetery. The benefits of the move for Newcastle Village are fivefold, fivefold, she said. It would create a permanent place for parents to meet, develop friendships and offer each other support. The centre and people in it would help to enhance parenting parenting skills through networking. networking. The centre would help to prevent feelings of isolation, thus encouraging a sense of community. "More and more families are moving away from their parents," .Mrs. Allin said. "A lot of older people don't understand understand a mom's need ■ to get out of the house now and then. "They say, 'I did all right raising my kids without support.'" support.'" Finally, it is hoped, by the proponents of the parent centre and business people alike that residents will do their business in the village. Some mothers, Mrs. Allin said, are left out on a limb after they move away from familiar settings. Through the Mom's Mornings, newcomers to the area become familiar with other families and the community. community. Other bonuses include trading babysitting time and even trading babysitter names and numbers. The resource centre Mrs. Allin would like to set up would have space divided into stations for the children. children. In addition, there would be a room set away from the children for mothers. mothers. In this way moms could have time away yet know exactly where tneir children are. The play area would be sectioned off for babies, and older children. There would, ideally, be space for permanent permanent storage. Another improvement they would like to make to their space is a resource library. library. Not only would toys be available on a weekly basis basis to be signed out but also materials such as parenting magazines. The play group would be run on Tuesday mornings and would consist of play stations. Presently, Mom's Mornings are on Thursdays and would remain so in the future. Play stations would be set up for painting, cut and paste, playdough, reading reading and a rice table. It would cost about. $2,500 a year to rent the room at the Community Hall. Since the government no longer grants money to be used for resource centres, the group will have to find the money in other ways. "We could go to the United United Way, there are town grants available. We could also have some fund-raising activities like bake sales, Mrs. Allin said. At present, the group is donating a nominal fee per year to use the hall of the Newcastle United Church on Mill Street. Funding for the support group including the cost of toys including paste, pumpkins, pumpkins, construction paper and other special materials for crafts, rent, is raised through membership fees of $20 per year per family. Other costs such as the purchase of juice and cookies cookies for the children are offset offset through a $2.00 fee per week of attendance to the Mom's Morning.
