Rd., stepped out in style on Saturday, November 3, and attended the Fall Food Fair and Pre- Christmas Gift Shop, in Port Perry United Church from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Lots of novel items for sale, and the bake table was groaning with a great array of delicious baking. Refreshments were very nourishing and most enjoyable; topped off with a good cup of tea or coffee! It was lovely to meet many good friends of yesteryear; when yours truly was a member of the Port Perry United Church! A pleasure to have Ken Cawker and his mother Nell Cawker of Scarborough this past Tuesday for a visit. Seems quite a while since we've had a time of visiting and reminiscing! A cup of tea was enjoyed later in the afternoon. Blackstock United Church Celebrates On Sunday morning, at 111 a.m. the Blackstock United Church celebrated their 103rd Anniversary Anniversary with a full house of interested interested folks for this special day in the life of the church. Rev'd Doreen Van Camp spoke beautifully with an excellent message for those attending. She reminisced a good deal re years gone by. Both Senior and Junior choirs sang in harmony; with organist Linda Kyte at the organ. A great day for the Blackstock Church! Sorry we missed it! Rev. Wm. Fairley conducted the service on Sunday, October 28 at 11 a.m., with the Sunday School children singing "This Is The Day" as an opening choral accompanied accompanied by organist Joyce Taylor. Responsive Psalm was No. 128 and Scripture readings were from II Ruth & Matthew 22. Rev. Fairley used a turnip for an object lesson for the Sunday School. The "rutabago" as it is called now, saved the early settlers settlers from famine through the long winters. He also explained Hallowe'en - All Hallow's Day followed by . All Saints Day on Nov. 1. . In his sermon, Rev. Fairley told of the first Reformation Day when Martin Luther presented 95 things to reform the church in 1517. Eugene Drouin Family and friends were saddened by the death of Eugene (Gene) Drouin at the Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, Bowmanville, on Friday, October 12, 1990. He was first admitted admitted to hospital on April 4 for five weeks. On September 8th, Gene was greatly surprised to find 25 relatives and friends gathered to honor his 70th birthday at a buffet supper at his ' home. On October 6 he returned to hospital where his condition declined rapidly until his death;. Born at Leant**/Plain; Cookshire, Quebec;": Gene was the eighth child of a family of 13 born to Francois Xavier Drouin and his wife, Josephine Poulin. During the latter part of World War II he was with the Canadian Army, stationed at Quebec City, Halifax and Debert, Nova Scotia. On February 15, 1946, Gene was married to Hazel Ruth Bowker, daughter of Austin and ms wile, Ruth Gilman. That year they bought the Clement Flaws Farm on the Flanders Road, near Sawyerville, where they did general farming until until a second farm was purchased purchased in Learned Plain, where they specialized in potato growing. In 1959 after after selling both farms, they purchased an established potato farm at Kingsey Falls, Quebec, where they lived until 1969. After a short time spent in Foster, Quebec as caretaker at the . Benson Estate, they moved to Newmarket, where Gene was manager for the Burka Farms. In July 1981, they bought a home in Bowmanville Bowmanville to which they retired. Gene leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Hazel, and their two sons, Herbert (Bert) and Maureen of Cha- teauguay, Quebec, and Donald Donald and Bonnie of Whitby, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers and five sisters, De- sneiges Doyon and Roland and Gisele Drouin of Ville LaSalle, Leo and Yvette Drouin of Lac des Seize lies.
