Governor Bill was thanked by Lion Ron Locke and presented with a memento memento of his visit to The Li-' ons Club of Newcastle. President Don Oke then asked for committee reports. The stag committee reported reported a very successful event had been held on Nov. 23rd with a sizable profit being earned for community projects. projects. The programme committee committee reported that the next meeting on Dec. 12th would be a special Christmas Christmas Meeting with spouses and guests invited to join us for a traditional meal and a snecial speaker, Laura Legg. Laura is the past Treasurer of The Law Society of Upper Canada and a very dynamic speaker. The Christmas draw committee committee reminded the club that the Christmas draw is on Dec. 12th. This is only two weeks away and all the tickets on the $1000.00 prize should be sold and turned in to Ron Locke by Dec. 11th. Post Office Meeting On Thursday afternoon, Nov. 29th, at the Newcastle Community Hall, representatives representatives of Canada Post were available to answer individu uals' questions concerning the new postal system in the village. In the evening, the changes in the postal service in the village of Newcastle were explained. Several local local persons made fine presentations presentations but the Post Office closes Feb. 8th, 1991. On Dec. 6th, 1990 the retail post office will be located at Guardian Drugs, Mill St. N., where all postal services will be offered, from 9:00 o'clock a.m. to 6:00 o'clock p.m. daily, daily, six days per week. Free re-addressing cards are available at the Post Office and free re-direct will be available for a full year, to give customers time to use up stationery with letterheads letterheads etc. After Feb. 8th, 1991, when the Post Office closes, the building will be made available to the Town of Newcastle. Hats off to Councillor Frank Stapleton who Questioned Questioned the serious problems with communication from Canada Post. If problems arise with delivery delivery to and from your local community lock boxes, call Jim Wineck 623-7671 and wrongs will be righted. By the way, local mail should take two days for delivery, delivery, inter provincial mail three days and across the country four days. I don't know who to call if it takes ten days from within the province. That has happened! happened! I also don't know why government representatives are so naive that they don't know what's going on at Canada Post, when the federal federal government is the biggest shareholder. Most shareholders would want to know, wouldn't they? And, if they didn't couldn't they find out if they were asked. From that meeting we do know that whenever a postmaster postmaster retires, that facility will be closed, and there is no need to go to your M.P. to ask. We, in Newcastle, as of December 8th, may just be called Greater Toronto Area, for what will be our identity with no post office. This is progress. St. George's Anglican Church Sunday, December 2nd, was the First Sunday in Advent. Advent. Holy Communion was celebrated at eight and eleven. eleven. Correction: On November November 25th, the flowers on the Altars were in memory of the Coulson Family given by Helen Lovekin Symons. There was a misprint in last week's account.
