Literature from the Toastmasters explains that the students learn to think for themselves, how to analyze' analyze' the ideas of others and how to express their own ideas through effective public public speaking. "In learning how to accept accept criticism, how to evaluate evaluate others fairly and how to organize and conduct group meetings, they learn how to guide others," the literature states. "The development of these abilities results in self-confidence and the competence competence to work with others toward a better world." Each leadership session is conducted as a meeting rather than a class and self- government is promoted rather than a teacher student student relationship. The choir then sang, We Three Kings and O Little Town of Bethlehem, with the introductory story again narrated by Devon. More audience singing was followed by Wesley Hills reading "To Bethlehem With Love." Following the carol Silent Night, Stanley closed with a Christmas Benediction. The brief business session session included a report on the church kitchen renovations which should be completed by the end of December. Joyce Taylor gave a report report from the manse committee committee where kitchen renovations renovations are also under discussion- Jean Taylor and Ida Bray were in charge of funtime when all played progressive crokinole. Lois nTY " ' Xmas Party Shared by W.I. and UCW The W.I. and U.C.W. members and friends met at the C. E. Hall on Dec. 10th at 6:30 p.m. with a Pot Luck, Supper. Mrs. C. Russell and Mrs. P. McIntyre welcomed everyone, singing their "Welcome Song" accompanied accompanied by Mrs. W. Laird at the piano. After the ladies had partaken partaken of the usual array of various casseroles, salads, homemade rolls and delicious delicious desserts, the following program was given. All enjoyed singing "O Come All Ye Faithful." Mrs. H. Bradley, W.I. Pres., was in charge of a number of gifts with the winners being Colleen Groenveld, Pearl Jollymore, Dorothy McIntyre, Helen Smit, Willie Eewes, Ruth Harris, Catherine Found, Merle Swallow, Carolyn Hall and Alice Boychyn. All the ladies received Victorian pot-pouri sachets which had decorated the Christmas tree, made by the U.C.W. The collection in aid of The Salvation Army was taken, amounting to $132.00. All joined in singing "While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks" and "Away in a Manger." A skit entitled "Carollers" was given by Mrs. H. Prescott Prescott and Mrs. W. Brown, with several favorite carols being sung in the background. background. Mrs. C. Russell, U.C.W.
