I spent one week in Toronto and then came to Port Hope. As ■it is near Christmas, I thought I would try to write up a few events that have occurred. The last Thursday in Nov., the Seniors held their Xmas dinner as well as celebrating celebrating birthdays. The three birthdays were: Jack Bark- well, Charlie Finnie and Roy Graham. Mr. Barkwell won the draw. A friend of the president had catered an excellent excellent dinner and about 40 attended. Games were played and instead of prizes, each one received a small gift. The room had been nicely decorated with a tree and Santa attended. Everyone Everyone thanked the members who z helped to make this a, pleasant occasion. The Women's Institute celebrated by attending dinner dinner at Braçkinbridge Res- i taurant. About 20 took in this event and reported on a mystery show that each could take part in. The seniors had a bus trip to Cullen's Garden where they saw all the decorative decorative lights and had a roast beef dinner. The W.I. will meet next week at Mrs. Quantrill's, it being her meeting. Little Jamie Fowler was out to Sunday School last week nt Elizabethville after a recent tonsil operation. Nancy Sevennuysen and Brittany arrived at Fowler's Monday night for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. W. Boyko visited with Ken and Bertha Trew on Saturday. Alyson Westheuser was home for most of the study week from university and went back on Saturday. She was able to get in to see me. Suzanne and Beryl were in Sunday. Mrs. Pearl Nelson is in the hospital. Our U.C.W. unit II meeting meeting had been cancelled for this month as there are too many things on. Mrs. Mae Muldrew had dinner Sunday with the McIntosh's at Coldspings. Mac Walker, who has been in the Peterborough hospital, came home today, waiting for his call to Toronto. Toronto. Some of my visitors have been: Clare Sheppard, Susan Susan Randoff, Jackson and Susan Peacock, Joyce Fowler, Fowler, Mrs. Sinnott and two friends, Mae Muldrew, E. Carruthers and others. The Women's Institute met on Tuesday at Mr. and Mrs. H. Quantrill's. Mrs. Beatty presided. We received received money for quilting the quilt for the Eastern Star. Cards were sent to Clara Sheppard, Bernice White and Eana Thickson. A flower arrangement was sent to the house on the death of Elva Prouse. We plan to have our bread making making course on Jan. 22nd at the township hall. If stormy, it will be the 29th. Reports on the district meeting at Beulah Robinson's in November November and a report on the area convention which Mrs. McAllister attended, were given. Cindy Trew gave out material material and helped each one to make an angel for the Christmas trees. Mrs. Quantrill had an Xmas contest. A donation was given to the Old Tymc Christmas. Blue Ray Chapter Celebrates In Style Blue Ray Chapter, No 238, OES, opened in regular form with W.M. Elsa Bongard presiding, assisted to W.P. Fred Alton. The Bible was opened by Conductress Conductress Wendy Puterbough and led in prayer by Chaplain Peter Miles. The Candian flag was escorted to the East by Marshal Richard Windsor. The Conductress Conductress has the pleasure of introducing introducing the Past Grand Matron Audry Martin, and Past Grand Patron Jack Merrill, D.D.G.M. Margaret Jeffrey, and Past D.D.G. Matrons Bessie Cosway and Thelma Beerthuizen. Past Matrons and Past Patrons were welcomed from Bowmanville, Toronto, Oshawa and Whitby. Many Blue Ray members were present. Christmas entertainment was provided by a group of talented singers under the able direction of Linda Clements, accompanied skilfully on the piano by Carol Morrow. They surely were enjoyed enjoyed by all! Jolly old Santa just arrived back from Florida with his Ho! Ho! Ho!, and his pack of goodies on this back - wearing his oversized oversized Sun Goggles! The Hall was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and the tables were laden with all kinds of delectable food - commencing with cold cuts, salads, and Christmas cookies, tarts and candies, candies, topped off with mulled cider, tea & coffee. A real feast! The refreshment committee Isobell Wilson and Jane Galbraith and. helpers deserve a big pat on the back! Nestleton United Church A full church on Sunday mor- ing, December 16. at.ll :15 a.m. at Nestleton United with Tom and Wilma Wotton extending the warm welcome at the door. The service was a highlight conducted by Ministers Rev. Dale Davis and Kay Heuer. This was the third Sunday in Advent - Joy. Glenn Malcolm and daughter Alison were the candle lighters, and Alison read the Scripture lessons from Luke 1:46-55 and Isaiah 61:1-4 and 8-11. This was White Gift Sunday when folks present gifts of food for the needy. The choir sang a fine Christmas number with Carol Mairs at the piano. Later, Janice MacKenzie and daughter Leslie sang a lovely lovely duet in harmony for the Chirstmas season. During the children's theme many brighteyed brighteyed children went forward to hear Rev. Dale Davis present exciting exciting story relating to Christmas gifts - before retiring to classes, For the sermon, Rev. Kay used as her topic "Revolutionary Joy" - a deep thought provoking message relating to the birth of Christ - a good message for all to take home. Offering rec'd by Tom Wotton & Herb Vine. Service was closed by Kay Heuer followed by singing Three Fold Amen. Birthday Party of Interest Mrs. Neta Fish "hosted" a lovely lovely birthday celebration for daughter-in-law, Yvonne Holland during the week at her apartment in Cadmus. Lots of goodies, a super birthday cake and gifts, made for a pleasurable occasion. Those present were her parents, Claire and Madeline Curtain of Lindsay, husband Calvin and children Chad, Craig and Alanna. Our best wishes to Yvonne for a happy year ahead. 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebrated Congratulations and very best wishes to good friends Bill & Marie Wakeford, who celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary Anniversary on Saturday afternoon with many relatives and friends on hand to extend their warmest wishes, the festivities were held at son Allan and Mary Anne Wakeford's home on Walsh Dr. in Port Perry. Very pleasant to meet their girls Lea-anne and Amanda and Bill and Marie's family - Anne and husband Murray Blain & family Kelly and Steve, Donna and of course Allan & Mary Anne. Bills brothers and a sister present were: Harold & Elsie, Ross & Ella, Lloyd & Anne and sister Jean and husband Tom Jenkins. Marie's brother Leland (Bud) Fisher and also present. A close friend Dorothy Naples was a guest. Lots of visiting and reminiscing during the afternoon over the tempting food topped off with a fine cup of coffee or tea. Our best to the Wakefords! Sunday School Christmas Concert On Sunday evening, December 16th saw a great attendance for the annual Christmas Sunday School Concert at Nestleton Untied Untied Church, with Superintendent Chris Davis at the helm, and the talented Emcee was Claire Not- man. All classes performed well to the delight of parents, grandparents grandparents and friends. After the youngster's programme, Christmas carols were enjoyed with Carol Mairs at the piano. After moving downstairs to the Sunday School Room jolly old Santa arrived and treats were distributed to the excited youngsters. Lunch was served by the U.C.W. and a social time followed. Our appreciation to our hard working Superintendent Chris Davis, and to the Sunday School staff and pianist Carol Mairs for the effort put forth to give pleasure to the children, parents, grandparents and so forth, in this happy, festive Christmas Season. Pleasing Outdoor Effect Don't forget to have a view of Chester's fine showing of Christmas lights - blinking here and there for the pleasure of those about him - as well as enhancing the homes in this joyous Yuletide Season. Chester has had a great many enquiries from people - far and near - about that eye-catching display. For those who appreciate a work of art; just take a drive through Caesarea - turn east from the corner store to Lakeview Street, then left and you'll feast your eyes! ' Santa Claus dropped by the Memorial Park Clubhouse on Sunday night to say hello to folks who had just completed a Senior Citizens ' Christmas light tour sponsored sponsored by the Bowmanville Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs. After a bus trip that passed the town's many colored light displays, the approximately 40 seniors enjoyed enjoyed tea, coffee and dessert at the Clubhouse. At that time, Santa dropped by for a chat. The Bowmanville Kinette Kinette s and Kinsmen have been hosting annual seniors' tours of Christmas lights and autumn color for about the past 15 years. News from Elizabethville their dinner on Dec. 10th. Sympathy is extended to friends and relatives of the late Mrs. Elva Prouse who died last week and was buried Wednesday. After the funeral, lunch was served at her home. Also, Doctor McDermott died on Wednesday Wednesday and His funeral is today. Mr. and Mrs. J. Fait, Mrs. O. Mercer and Ruth Prévost spent a few days in ....... - ^ The Results of our 1st Annual Toy Drive Were Wonderful! A sincere "Thank You" to the many generous readers who donated gifts.
