Richards November 1994 marks the first time residents of the re-named Municipality Municipality of Clarington will get a chance to vote for their mayor, councillors, school trustees and the Clarington Hydro Commissioners. So far there hasn't been a flurry of activity from people requesting notices of registration forms. But, Municipal Clerk Patti Barrie says that will change come late spring and early summer. "We've got a few more months before we get wound up," said Barrie Barrie on Tuesday, Jan. 18. However, there has been interest displayed through a number of telephone telephone inquiries. A couple of people have even picked up the forms which candidates must complete. As it is, the Municipal Clerk has yet to receive confirmation as to when the election date actually is. Currently, the Notice of Registration Registration forms are available at the Clerk's Department at the Municipal Municipal Administration Building in Bowmanville. This is the first of two forms eligible eligible candidates must fill out when declaring their intentions to run for any one of 19 available positions. The information needed on this form includes name, mailing address, address, position sought, ward number and chief financial officer's name. An auditor must be listed if campaign campaign spending is over $10,000. A list of names of other people able to accept campaign donations, and campaign accounts must be provided. provided. . The clerk says the information on accounts is to ensure the campaign donations are kept separate from personal accounts. This is especially especially useful it one is audited after an election, she noted. Other information needed on the form includes a declaration of where campaign records will be kept -- whether at home or at a campaign office. Most folks running in an election seem to use their homes as their ofi fice, Barrie said. Another piece of vital information information required is an address where communications may be sent. Of course, the form ends with a signed declaration from the candidate candidate that all the information is "true and correct," said Barrie. People who want to mn as a candidate candidate in the election must be 18 years of age and older, and must be a resident or non-resident landowner in Clarington. That means that one does not have to be a property-owner to seek an elected post. Apartment dwellers or renters can apply. The Notice of Registrations cannot cannot be faxed in to the municipality, but can be either hand-delivered or mailed. Nomination papers can only be accepted in October. The dates for filing nomination papers are unknown unknown at this time. However, the nomination forms represent the sec ond papers candidates will need to file. On this form, the candidates need signatures of 20 supporters. The original nomination papers can be sent by the mail and will be accepted up to a deadline to be announced announced at a later date. Copies or. faxes will not allowed.
