THURSDAY, MAY 19TH ACTIVE LIVING SEMINAR - The 50+ Movin' arid Groovin'Club will hold an Active Living Seminar at the Bowmanville Lions Centre. It takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be demonstrations of line dancing and tai chi as well as a report from the Seniors' Community Action Team. Also, there will be a presentation by a representative of the Public Health Dept, on the topic of osteoporosis. On Thursday evening, Clarington Mayor Diane Hamre will officially open the Bowmanville Zoo's new jaguar enclosure. Bowmanville Zoo Week continues to May 23rd. SUNDAY, MAY 22ND CLARINGTON CLEAN-UP WEEK BEGINS - Clarington Council has declared the week of May 22 to May 28 as Clarington Clean-Up Week. Saturday's events run from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and include a five kilometre run craft sale, children's entertainment and "Concert on the Hill." The concert, which features some of the entertainers from the 'Oranges and Tea' recording, will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday evening. CANADIAN TIRE BIKE RODEO - Don't miss the Bowmanville Optimist Bike Rodeo which takes place at the Bowmanville Canadian Tire Store at the comer of Highway Two and Regional Rd. 57. Ruth Latimer of Whitby is among the three artists holding an exhibit exhibit at the Visual Arts Centre in Bowmanville. Her Sad Lisa and Steve are just two of the graphite drawings in her 25 works on display display at the exhibition. The other artists are Ruth Read of Whitby and Richard Toms of Brooklin. Read.'s exhibit includes a number of drawings rendered with powdered graphite, bronze powder and willow willow charcoal on tracing paper. Toms' works are on a number of different different media, including mylar and small sculptures hand-modelled in clay. SATURDAY, MAY 28TH YARD SALE IN COURTICE - The St. Anthony of Padua Parish Yard Sale is scheduled to take place in the parking lot of the Mother Theresa School parking lot at 78 Glenabbey Dr., Courtice. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. You're invited to drop by and help the organizers raise funds for building a new church in the community. YOUTH GROUP HOLDS CAR WASH - The Trinity Hi-C Youth Group will hold a Car Wash at Trinity United Church. It takes place between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. HOSPITAL FOR SICK CHILDREN FUND-RAISER - You can. enjoy "A Day at the Fair" on Saturday, May 28, in Burketon. The fun takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 25 Sumac Rd. It will feature the magic of Peter Loughran, Master of Illusions, who will perform at 2 p.m. There will be a rodeo, an old MacDonald's Farm, a ventriloquist/ clown, and refreshments. The kids will enjoy a hula hoop contest, bike decorating, and sidewalk pictures. At 4:30 p.m., there will be an auction. All proceeds will go to the Hospital for Sick Children telethon. SUNDAY, MAY 29TH SMALL WONDERS MINIATURE CLUB EXHIBIT - You can see dollhouses, miniature rooms, stores, demonstrations and also enjoy delicious home made refreshments at the Small Wonders Miniature Club Show and Tea. It takes place at the Memorial Park Clubhouse in Bowmanville. Hours are from noon to four p.m. Each ear, the club chooses a specific project to create. This year, they ave built miniature rooms from ice cream containers. Those who attend are eligible to win a door prize. An admission fee will be charged. The book sale will take place on June 18th, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Blacksmith Shop will be unveiled at the same time and will be open for viewing by the public during the sale. The board of directors regrets any inconvenience which may have resulted from this change in plans.
