After the opening hymns and the first lesson from John 15; 9-17 about Jesus Jesus telling the people that he loves them, just as the father loves them. The choir sang an anthem. Little Charlene Bailey sang a solo for Expressions Expressions of Worship. For the children's children's minute, Reverend Sedgwick asked the children what wonderful gift God had bestowed upon them. On Tuesday, Betty Elliott, along with, some others, was honored for years of volunteer work. The ceremony ceremony was held at Victoria Hall, Co- bourg. She received a service award from the Provincial Ministry of Citi zenship, Culture and Tourism, and Recreation to recognize 5-10-15 years of service in the field of Multi- culturalism, Citizenship, Human Rights, and the Arts. Heritage Conservation, Conservation, Public Library Community Information Centre, East Durham Historical Society gave Betty Elliott the award for the past five years in the last two categories. On Tuesday the ladies of our U.C.W. unit n served a dinner at six o'clock for the guests that attended the meeting of the Cobourg Presbytery. Presbytery. About fifty sat down and they had an evening meeting as well as an afternoon meeting. On Thursday our seniors met as usual with a good crowd attending. Clarence and Betty Mercer had most of the family call on Mother's Day and Marie called on Saturday. Mae Muldrew had Jim home for the weekend and they had dinner with Shirley and Bruce. Bertha and Ken Trew had the Der- emo's for supper Sunday. Helen Fowler called on Saturday. Irene Beatty had supper Sunday with thè Yarema's. Doris and Diane phoned her for Mother's Day and she talked to her little granddaughter in B.C. also. Howard and Margaret White had Mary Alice home for the weekend. Suzanne and the girls, Darlene and Mark and Brenna met at June Moore's at the Orillia hospital after visiting with June and the girls. Mark and Brenna came home to Starkville early on Saturday. Suzanne and Darlene visited June later in the day and came home Saturday night. I had five o'clock dinner on Sunday with them at Suzanne's. Most of the families in the area were home sometime in the week end to visit with their mothers. Shane and Sophia spent Saturday with Jackson and Susan Peacock. Lots of music and fun! , Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morton, Kendal spent holidays recently visiting visiting Muriel and Bob Grunerud, St. Cloud, Minn, U.S.A. Mr. Manley Littlewood recently passed away. He is the son of the late Samuel Littlewood a former minister of Orono United Church for many years. Manley will be remembered by many local people. Choir Party An enjoyable evening was spent Wednesday May'll, at the Dickadel Farms, the home of Dick and Stella Morton. A delicious pot-luck dinner was enjoyed by about 20 members and spouses of Orono United Church Choir. A surprise presentation was made to Laura Lynn Plummer, a choir member, a prospective bride. A beautiful beautiful vase was presented by members of the choir, and also a lovely corsage. corsage. The bride thanked everyone and then a well decorated cake and ice cream were enjoyed by all. With beautiful, beautiful, sunny morning, and a former "Orono boy" as Auctioneer, we had a real fun time. Stirling Mather, Newcastle, Newcastle, sure kept our party lively, and his helper Eterek Barnett assisted greatly. The Bake Sale tables, were extremely extremely tempting, pies, layer cakes, cookies, squares etc. and many ardent bidders. This is of course gardening time and beautiful hanging baskets, plants, berry bushes and perennials were picked up quickly.
