SUNDAY, JULY 31 ST CONTESTS AT PIONEER VILLAGE -- Pioneer contests for all ages will be featured Sunday, July 31, at Lang Pioneer Village. These will include fiddle-playing, crafts, and a giant com-roast. There will also be a log-rolling competition and events such as wood-piling, nail-driving, stilt-walking, and watermelon-eating. The activities are from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The village is located 10 miles southeast of Peterborough and one mile north of Keene at Lang. STOP SMOKING PROGRAM -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will host a stop-smoking program at 7 p.m. in the Bowmanvillc chapel. It is located on Highway Two, just west of Bowmanville. All members of the community are invited to attend this informative smoking cessation program. SCUGOG REGATTA -- The annual Lake Scugog Regatta and Field Day concludes today. Sunday's events include a church service, children's baseball and canoe and swimming events at the government dock. The regatta takes place in Caesarea. PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE WORKSHOP - On Saturday, August 6, the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority will host a free "Project Purple" workshop in the recreation building at Enniskillen Conservation Area. The workshop begins at 7:30 p.m. and is to be conducted by the Project Purple team. This group, which is sponsored by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, is educating the public about the dangers of purple loosestrife. Purple loosestrife is a weed which gradually takes over wetlands and chokes out native vegetation. This education program will help you learn how to protect wetlands and remove purple loosestrife. SUNDAY, AUGUST 7TH SHOW AND SHINE - The Optimist Club of Bowmanville will be holding its 8th annual "Show and Shine" at the Enniskillen Conservation Area August 7th. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This will be a mammoth outdoor display of rods, customs, antiques, classics, special interest cars and street machines. Proceeds from the day will support the club's many youth programs. The cook-out was part of the Pioneer Weekend Weekend at Darlington Saturday and Sunday. 7th Annual Blackstock Corn Roast Helps Heart and Stroke Foundation The Heart and Stroke Foundation will benefit from the 7th annual Musicians' Musicians' Com Roast for the Heart which will take plàce in Blackstock. It will be held Saturday, August 13th, from 1 p.m. to 1 p.m. at 4790 McKee Rd., just east of Blackstock. The com roast features recording artist Paul Wasson and the Burnt River Band, Dottie Randall and June Eikhart, Canada's first lady of the Fiddle. Other musicians include Stetson, Bakersfield Band, Rodeo boys, IJ. Cooper, Gary Morin Band, Gary Hooper, and Sherry Black. There will be raffles, door prizes, spot dances, crown and anchor and horseshoes. There will be no admission charge, but everyone is asked to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
