Automobiles at the Pickering Go Station were covered with about four inches of fluffy white snow on our return return about midnight. The topic of the mayor's presentation will be "The Politics of Downloading." ■••••■■■■••a aaaaaaaaaaaa MILL GALLERY OFFERS NEW SHOW - An exhibition by Adrienne Trent entitled Cell/Mess Series will open on January 14th at the Visual Arts Centre in Bowmanville. The opening is from two to four p.m. on January 14th, with the work remaining on display until February 2nd. The medium in this exhibition is colour xerox on acetate and her subject matter combines micro-cellular images and "household mess." Over the past decade, Trent's work has been exhibited extensively within the parallel- gallery system in Ontario and Quebec. The January exhibit will be followed by the Visual Arts Centre's twelfth annual "Winter's Harvest" show February 18 to March 8. BUSINESS GROUP DISCUSSES INTERNET - The Clarington Business Group will hold its next breakfast meeting on Tuesday, January 16th. The program will consist of an informal discussion about the benefits, myths and potential business applications of the Internet. The meeting begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Flying Dutchman Hotel. Hours are from 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and Thursdays, January 18 to April 4, from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. Story time in the Newcastle Branch is Wednesdays from January 17 to April 3 at 1:30 p.m. The Newcastle Village Branch will also host Bedtime Storytime. It is from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., commencing on January 18. The Oshawa kids enjoyed a day of skating and sledding sledding action at the conservation conservation area with their families families recently. By Michelle Balson This weather has been good for something, Hampton's outdoor outdoor skating rink. Cold enough that the rink was built in less than a week without a liner. Work began the day after New Year's. The final floodings were done this past weekend behind the Community Center. Anyone wishing to help maintain maintain a skatablc surface is asked to please contact Beth Knowlcr as her hubby Jack could use the help. Remembering to take the garbage to the curbside on time can sometimes be a chore. For some folks it just got harder. Hampton now has a new garbage garbage day. Pick-up will now be Fridays. No word yet on a time change. The first Wednesday Euchre Euchre Card Party of the year had a fabulous highest score. Doreen Doreen Ferguson scored 107 without without having the Most Lone Hands, which was won by Alice Beech with five. Back on track Marie Brooks had the second highest score of 84. Marg Hall was next with 78. Fred Griffin followed with his score of 75. Not far behind was Dorothy Beech with 72. Betty Kuycr was the evening's Most Honest Player. Vera Downey won the Special. The draw winners were Daisy Bell, Bernice Bernice Renton, Clarence Bray, Ada Richards and Verna Robinson. Robinson. Confirmation classes for youth 13 and up will begin this Sunday the 14th at 1:30 p.m. in Hampton. This first session will also help decide when and where the other eight, one and half hour classes will be held. A reminder that the Hampton Hampton United Church Women, will meet this coming Monday the 15th. The Hampton Stewards will be catering a dinner at the Lions Lions Centre on Monday, January January 22nd. Volunteers and donations donations of food arc needed.
