10 The Clarington/Courtice Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, May 25, 1996 Clarington Says "Nay" To GTA Amalgamation Ad Hoc Committee Briefs Council The Clarington Ad Hoc Committee to Assist Youth presented Clarington Council with report on how their information-gathering stage is going, as the committee members members work towards a June 1996 completion date for a report. Committee members present present on Monday, April 29, were (not in order of appearance in photo): Diane Higgs, Maryanne Mart, Ron Collis, Debra Albright, Doug Notion, Chris Wood, and Pat Street. Maple Grove W.l. The "Nays" have it! A report from Clarington's Clerk's Department shows 2,973 people do not want the municipality to be a part of the proposed GTA's Greater Toronto Council. However, 39 people do. Those are the results as stated stated in a report released on Tuesday night, May 21, at the general purpose and administrative administrative committee meeting. Margin of vote t vas 2,973 to 39 The report notes two public meetings on the GTA proposal were held, one in Bowmanville and another in Newcastle. A third had been scheduled, but was cancelled due to a storm. The surveys were available at the two meetings and at the town hall up to April 16. On March 28, a survey day was held at five locations: Solina Community Hall, Dr. Emily Stowe Public School, the Municipal Administration Centre, the Newcastle Community Hall and the Clarke Branch of the Clarington Public Library. The report states, "Following the 60-day period, all of the original surveys were forwarded to Mike Harris, premier premier of Ontario and copies of the survey were sent to A1 Leach, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and to John O'Toole, MPP." Kelsey, incoming President, in charge of the business. Meeting opened with the singing of the Ode and the repeating of the Lord's Prayer. Minutes were read and approved and.treasurer's report given. We received an invitation invitation to visit Solina W.L on June 12th at 8 p.m. Also, a list of several short courses being given at Solina were read and members signed up. We were asked to nominate a member from our Branch as an outstanding member and there will be 100 chosen in Ontario to celebrate 100. years of W.I. work. We decided to name Mrs. H. Bradley. Mrs. Bradley, who was present, present, thanked the ladies for flowers, fruit baskets and cards sent to her. Mrs. W. Brown thanked the W.I. for honouring her and Mrs. W. Laird, Mrs. H. Cryderman at our 50th Anniversary on April 22nd. Mrs. Laird and Mrs. Cryderman also voiced their thanks. Each group gave their plans for their three meetings for the following year. A summer outing is being planned for July 22nd to Doug Lycett's daylily farm in Orono with a picnic afterwards. Regular collection, Pennies for Friendship, were then taken. Mrs. S. At the age of one, our learning learning style and motivation is pretty pretty well set. The brain has growth spurts and then rests. One side may be more dominant dominant in some people. Left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and the right side the reverse. The brain is on hold when the body is growing, but shrinks as we grow older. While some of the ladies were busy making table favours, the rest of us set up the tables and got things ready for the next day.
