Bodk today - 697-0621 91 King St. West, Bowmanville Polesitter Paul Gentilozzi, of Lansing, MI, led from start to finish to take a .349-second win in the Trans-Am race, the feature feature attraction of the busy Sunoco Ultra 94 Trans-Am Weekend at Mosport Park. Gentilozzi, who said before the race that it would take "a lot of luck, coupled with consistency," consistency," to win the race, had enough of both, as he led Jamie Galles of Albuquerque, NM, to a one-two Camaro finish. It was Gentilozzi's first Trans- Am win of the year, and put him into 4th place in the driver's driver's championship. Third; after twice working his way from the back of the field, was Tom Kendall of Apopka, FL, whose Ford Mustang suffered severe body damage in a wild starting line tangle with the Camaro of Ken Wilden. That crash came on the final pace lap, and forced both Kendall and Wilden into the pits. Kendall returned to the track with new rear bodywork on his car, but was forced to start the race from the back of the pack. He worked his way up to 6th place, then pitted again during a caution, and, with new tires on his Mustang, managed to again come through the field, for a fine third-place finish. Kendall also turned the fastest lap in the race, a 1:21.363 circuit, circuit, on the 11th lap of the 40- lap event. Fourth was Trans-Am. veteran veteran Greg Pickett of Alamo, CA, in a Camaro; fifth was the Mustang of Brian Simo of Carlsbad, CA; and, Boris Said, also of Carlsbad, was sixth in another Mustang, as Fords and Chcvys divided the top-10 finishing finishing spots. Canadian favourite Ron Fellows, who had started from the front row, was running second second to Gentilozzi for the first third of the race, but was sidelined sidelined by a blown piston in his Chevrolet. The other Canadian in the starting field - Ken Wilden - was unable to take the green flag for the re-start after his Camaro sustained a ruptured ruptured oil line and body damage in the spectacular "start/line crash with Kendall's Ford Mustang. Italian driver Almo Coppclli captured the World Challenge Sports race, piloting his Corvette to an easy 12.5-scc- ond win over the Intruder of Shane Lewis of Jupiter, FL. Jochen Rohr, of Cincinnati, OH, was third in a Porsche 911. In other Mosport action, Kyle Konzer of Waterford, MI, won the Shelby Pro Scries race by a slim .204-second margin; Australian Jason Bright took a 1.7-second victory in the U.S. Formula 2000 Championship; and, Ken Wilden and Greg Wilkins co-drove a Camaro to the winner's circle in the hour- long Magna International event. Peewee Orioles Host Tourney The Clarington Orioles Minor and Major Peewee baseball baseball teams hosted a tournament on the May long weekend at Memorial Park. This tournament tournament had teams from across Ontario competing. The Minor Peewee team had a tough four-game schedule in the round robin, as they had to play all Major teams. Going in as the underdogs, with nothing to lose, the boys played some very relaxed baseball and came away with two wins and two close loses. That was enough to get them into the "B" finals. The boys were very happy as they kept the game very close, and, with a few breaks, they could have won. The coaches would like to congratulate the boys on some great defensive work and some outstanding offense. The Minor Peewee team is made up of the following players: Matt Allen, Ryan Clarke, Ryan Cottrell, Gary Campbell, Steven Dell, Robbie Ellerbeck, Dale Hubbs, Derek McGrath, Adrian Perry, Chad Rowe, Drew Sharpe, - Mitchell Spencer and Chris Sturge. " The Major Peewee team was in a division with some of the best teams from across Ontario as they had to face Leaside, • ; 7: To P a 9 e 7 7 OSMflWfl fi DISTRICT HOCKEY SCHOOL AND PRO CflMP • Beginner Hockey • Power Skating Stick Handling Introduction to Body Checking 1 For More Information 723-8768 or 666-5927 Attention Valued Customers in order to &&UAC yon even fatten we (vitl noev fa diotni&ntiny our t Wt & Vft Uteat Sfapo fyefene in tfa (vee&end edition o£ (Ztaninyton independent.
