Ada Van Belle, their beloved mother, passed away this winter and will be sadly missed by her family, staff and customers. Ada's creative attributes were evident in her wonderful window displays. She had a great business sense and always had new ideas. She was warm and welcoming to all her customers customers and they would look forward to her contagious laughter and felt that it was a pleasure dealing with her. The company's founder, Harry Van Belle, was bom in Holland and lived in that country country throughout the war years, before moving to Canada. He remembers nightly bombings when the family took shelter in a basement and the recollection that tulip bulbs were for eating, not for flowers. He remembers the first allied tanks pecking around the corner corner of his street and the first banana they ever saw in their life. The allied soldiers shared it with the family and his mother mother sliced a small piece for each of them. His father later escaped, but was rc-cap- tured. However, the Van Belles were among the lucky families to see their father returned again unharmed. In some observations published published for the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Holland, Harry Van Belie noted: "We thank God for the liberation of Holland by the Allies. We thank God for Canadians and their allies who went beyond the call of duly to lay their lives on the line for us in Holland. We thank God for that same spirit today that we, as Canadians, feel duty bound to uphold freedom around the world. We thank God for my great country, Canada." Forthcoming Marriage The theme was "HOPE" for the Toastmasters meeting of 21. Chairman Toastmaster Irene Konzeimann drew from her head table the philosophy that hope was one of the essential ingredients for an optimistic outlook. For the second week in a row, one of our new Toastmasters, Denise Marck, was selected as the best Table Topics speaker. As Mickey Mouse, she complained to Wait Disney that those large cars really kept her off balance. Toastmaster Dow told how she would lure all members to their doom if she were a mermaid mermaid singing her siren song. President Toastmaster Connie Nelson expressed the gratitude of the group to Toastmaster Lcctoozc tor not only providing us with interesting interesting and vital meeting agendas, but also for establishing a resource centre for all members. members.
