Mrs. Pearl Hopson, of Oshawa, accompanied by a friend, Helen Hobbs and Elizabeth Skclding enjoyed last Thursday at Cullen Gardens. The ladies report the tulips were beautiful. Mr. Albert Pearce spent Sunday with his sister, Peggy Visser, Toronto. They enjoyed dinner at the Inn on the Park and the Blue Jays ball game at Sky dome. On Saturday Albert Pearce accompanied son Larry and grandson Jeff to Kingston for a double header ball game there between Kendal and Kingston. Congratulations to the Kendal team who won both games. Returning from a week's vacation last Tuesday were Frank and Eva Hoar, Jack and Gloria Gordon. Three days were spent at the Ford Museum, Dearborn Michigan and Greenfield Village. Other points of interest visited on this motor trip were Frankenmuth, Michigan, Mackinac, Sault Ste. Marie and Science North at Sudbury. On Saturday at Newcastle United Church, Reverend Stiles united in marriage Tim Abbott, son of Joy and Larry Abbott, and Michelle Walker, of Port Hope. We extend congratulations congratulations and best wishes. Birthday greetings to Joan Taylor, George Rickard, Marlene Murray, Jcnnclle Vasseur, Valerie Rudman, Jean Holmes, Ron Burley, Jennifer Woo, and Randy Clugston. Mrs. Vickie Gray attended the "Star Systems" Regional Competition on the weekend in Niagara Falls, where grandson Stephen was a competitor. She is happy to report that he was quite successful. Out of 60 solo competitors, Stephen tied himself himself for second place. Both his jazz solo and tap solo were awarded the same score - a first time when someone has tied himself. Stephen will now be travelling to Myrtle Beach this summer to compete in the 1996 National Finals. Congratulations, Stephen and all the best! On Friday, May 24th, at Newtonvillc Hall, there were twelve tables of card players. Winners of the games were 1st Ed Hoad with 85 points, 2nd Eric Helyer 8l, Reid Harness 78, Wanda McNeil 77, O. Drinkwaltcr 76, and Marie Couroux 75. Winners of draws were Jean O'Neill, Cleo Dey, Loma Crockett, Olive Little, Muriel Burtch, and Cecil Dey. The next card party at Newtonvillc will be held on Friday evening, June 7th. On Sunday Mr. Harry Wade enjoyed dinner and a visit with Mr. and Ms. Harvey Atwood, Whitby. On Wednesday evening the Newcastle Lions had their annual Wild Goose Chase. They ended up at Lloyd Smith's Winery at Port Perry by Jack and Hazel Crago KICK TIIE IIABIT -- The Lung Association of Durham Region holds its Smokers Overcoming Smoking meetings every Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Lung Association office in Oshawa. All helped Beth celebrate celebrate her birthday. Mrs. Margaret Rudtnan spent the weekend in Waterloo for grandson Darren Matthew's graduation. Darren, son of Fay and Willi Matthews, of Barry's Bay, graduated with a degree in System Design Engineering. He has accepted a position with MacMillan Blocdcl in Vancouver as a process engineer. engineer. Darren's fiancee, Connie Kargus, also graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Robin Alldrcd, Doug and Annette Nugent and Jenna helped to celebrate Lois Rowe's birthday with Doug and Barry, Bowmanvillc. Mr. and Mrs. Brenton Rickard enjoyed the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Martin, Elmvale. The Simonds of Prcsqu'ile were also visitors. All enjoyed reminiscing about their East African trip of last year. News from St. George's On Thursday, May 23rd a group of students and teachers from the Sunday School enjoyed a day-long Pentecost workshop at St.Peter's Church in Cobourg. Together with children from all over the Deanery, they had fun singing, doing crafts, dressing dressing up and learning about, this important festival. Those who represented our parish at this event were: Brandon, Danielle and Tracy Harris, Judy and Erin Metcalf, Amber Moir, Jennifer Lindsay, Kyle McOustra and Carol Jones. St. George's celebrated Pentecost at the service of Morning Prayer on May 26th. The choir sang an anthem "Spirit of Gentleness" and the red altar hangings reminded us that the Spirit of God comes among us with the power of wind and fire.
