14 The Canadian Statesman, Bovvmanville, Wednesday, August 28,1996 Obituaries Registrations Registrations DOROTHY MILDRED CRAGO Dorothy Mildred Crago (Quin- ney) age 68 passed away at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital, July 17, 1996 after a lengthy illness. illness. She was born April 29, 1928 at Providence to Mildred and the late Bert Quinney. She was educated at Providence Public School, and Bowmanville High School. On December 27th, 1947, she married Calvin Melborne Crago, son of Eber and Vida Crago and resided at their heritage farm for 47 1/2 years. Dorothy and Calvin owned and operated Caldor Acres Farm Market. Dorothy was a dedicated homemaker homemaker and a perfectionist in many fields, from caning chairs to fine needlework and her love for music was manifest in singing, singing, piano and violin. Dorothy was President of the Peterborough , District Olde Tyme Fiddlers and Dance As sociation; member of the Whitby Whitby Old Tyme Fiddlers Club, Orono and District Fiddle Club, and Port Perry Fiddle Club; and also also a member of Carolyn Fell's Show for Seniors and played in Toronto, Peterborough, Osha- wa and Bowmanville for the seniors. seniors. Dorothy was a member of Trinity United Church, Bowmanville. In 1985, she was recognized as a 4H leader with an achievement award for "Actionwear"; held the position of sewing convener for the Cubs and Scouts for many years; a member and pianist for Providence and Shaws Women's Women's Institute; and presided over the meetings for TOPS, Chapter ON870, Bowmanville and was a dedicated member for 18 years. She is survived by her devoted husband Calvin, daughter Teresa Teresa and husband David Benn, son Paul and wife Lynda, son Kevin, and three grandchildren. The funeral was held at North- cutt Elliott Funeral Home, July 20th, 1996, at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Canon Byron Yates officiated. Music was provided by the organist Arline Ayre. Basil McGee and Norman Andrews Andrews played Dorothy's favourite favourite piece accompanied by Marlin McGee on the piano. Pall bearers were Tom Barrie, John Wight, Sam Turner, grandson grandson Mark Legon, Dwight Fell, Francis Wrightman, Stan Lane and Lance Crago. Floral tributes arrived from Laidlaw Carriers, Hub International, Fish and Bird Emporium, Durham Growers Storage, TOPS Chapter, National National Trust and neighbours. RUTH ELIZABETH PEARCE Ruth Elizabeth Pearce died peacefully in her sleep at the summer residence in Caesarea, Ontario on Saturday, July 27, 1996. Ruth was born in Darlington Township May 19, 1929. Her parents were Russell and Leta Maud Robbins. Ruth went to Bowmanville High School, when she graduated she worked at he old A & P grocery store in Bowmanville Bowmanville for two years. She then met. John Pearce of Courtice and married John on September 22, 1951 at Trinity United Church in Bowmanville. Ruth is survived by her seven children Dorothy, • George, Glenn, Roy, Joan, Clare, and Neil Pearce. Her husband John passed away in April 1983 and a daughter Mary passed away in February 1972. Ruth and her husband John moved to Oshawa in 1958 from Bowmanville, where they continued continued to raise a lovely family of 8 children. Ruth was an avid church goer. She went to Trinity United Church in Bowmanville and when she met her husband- to-be, John Pearce, they went to Ebenezer United Church in Courtice. They had Young Peoples' Peoples' events at the church and went to each others' church and events every other weekend. When they moved to Oshawa Ruth joined Simcoe St. United Church in Oshawa, and joined their church choir. Later on she became a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oshawa until her death. Ruth taught piano to many students over the years as her children were growing up. She had one student named Ron Shortt who called her every year at Christmas to wish her a "Merry Christmas". This carried on every year until December 1995. Ruth was a amateur genealogist and worked along with Mrs. Bessie Bessie Gannon. She also compiled compiled a family history book of Allins Allins and Blackburn families. Ruth's funeral was held at Morris Morris Funeral Chapel in Bowmanville, Bowmanville, Ontario, on July 30, 1996 at 11 a.m. Rev. Allen I. Crawford Crawford of Calvary Baptist Church, Oshawa, officiated. Words of remembrance remembrance were spoken by Mrs. Bessie Gannon of Oshawa. Oshawa. A solo was sung by Mrs. Pat Greene of Courtice and played by Mrs. Marg Taylor of Oshawa - solo was called "Finally "Finally Home". The congregation sang "Grace Greater Than Our Sin" and "Amazing Grace". The pallbearers were Clare Pearce, Neil Pearce, Brent Pearce, Paul Allin, Bruce Snowden and Don Guitard. Many floral tributes were received as well as donations donations to Heart & Stroke Foundation Foundation , Gideon Bibles and the Diabetes Diabetes Association.. Interment was at Ebenezer Cemetery and then friends and relatives went back to Calvary Baptist Church and were served a little luncheon by the women of the church.
