The Canadian Statesman Minor Atom Toro hockey club participated in not one, but two hockey tournaments over the Thanksgiving weekend, and emerged as champions from both! They constructed a perfect perfect 8-0 record over the four days and never allowed more than two goals against in any one game. Tournament number one was hosted by the Peterborough Peterborough Nationals and played in Bewdley. In round-robin play on Friday and Saturday, the Toros defeated host Peterborough Peterborough 6-0; Richmond Hill 4-0, and Caledon 6-1. The team then said goodbye to beautiful Bewdley and on Sunday travelled to Alliston for tournament #2 - a one day tournament. Their opening game was versus the host TNT club, whom the Toros dominated 5- 0. Game two, which would decide decide the placements for the A and B Championships, was against a very determined In- nisfil squad. The Statesman Boys showed signs of fatigue during this contest since they were playing their fourth game in 24 hours. However, with great determination they chiselled chiselled out a 2-1 victory. In the championship they would face Orangeville. The coaching staff wondered if fatigue fatigue would again be a factor, but the boys smelled à championship championship and they settled their appetite with a strong 4-2 win. With six games played and three-quarters of the weekend done, the Toro team headed back to Bewdley (tournament #1) for a 9:00 a.m. semi-final match vs. Owen Sound. The Bowmanville club received a huge boost before the game when their likeable team captain captain Steven Omelko (who had missed the entire Alliston tournament) tournament) showed up to play. That meant the club had another another tournament championship championship staring them in the face, and the boys were willing and able to take up the challenge. Their opponent was a large and well disciplined team from Waterloo. It was a well played game, with end-to-end action, strong defensive play, and some opportunistic scoring. In the end it was the Canadian Statesman Toros in a happy pile-up on the ice celebrating a 4-2 victory and their second championship in as many days. The statistics for the eight games of the entire weekend are as follows: Alec Hamilton (10g, 5a); Ryan Fowler (6g, 7a); Brandon Murphy (3g, 9a); Steven Omelko (6g, 5a); Adam Cryderman (2g, 8a), Chris Trace (5g, 4a); Corey Oliver (lg, 4a); Chris Gerrits (4a);.
