WÊm mm A 'BEAR'Y MERRY CHRISTMAS - Lumbering along behind the gang from the Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs of Bowmanville was a huge, animated polar bear. Over 10,000 people attended the 35th Annual Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, November 16th which featured over 60 floats, bands and fillers. wm. m j 'ÆÊÊÈmmM illil Vr/i'utiÿ'/iA'- LION KING - The Bowmanville Lions and the Theatre Dance Academy teamed up to create this spectacular, animated animated entry which captured the senior division trophy. Santa Claus Parade Attracts Crowd of 10,000 It was all Santa Claus, sunshine, sunshine, and smiles for Saturday's Saturday's 35th Annual Christmas parade through downtown Bowmanville. Sunny skies beamed down as thousands of children lined the curbs on King and Liberty Streets, bundled up in blankets, ready for the procession of marching bands, floats and fillers fillers to go past. All were eagerly awaiting the big moment when Santa Claus and his reindeer would arrive. And the jolly man of the season didn't disappoint the crowd of over 10,000. Santa waved and shouted greetings to the kids and promised promised to return on December 24th. With over 60 spectacular floats, bands and fillers judges had a tough time. Winning entries were picked based on originality, use of color, eye appeal for children, workmanship and actual actual presentation. Taking the trophy for the senior division float was the huge Lion King float with animated animated lions and bears surrounded surrounded by an energetic troupe of dancers. This was a joint effort effort between the Lions Club of Bowmanville and the Theatre Dance Academy. The winning float in the junior division was the Bowmanville Bowmanville High School Christmas Christmas float put together by BHS students, the Bowmanville Rotary Rotary Club, Cowan Pontiac- Buick and New City Resources. The filler prize went to Casper Casper and Friends who were: Kim Wilcox, her son Joshua, Mark Blanchard and Tara and Tawney Sutherland. Postal workers collected letters letters to Santa all along the parade parade route. And parade volunteers handed out programs and sold buttons to support one of the largest non-commercial Christmas Christmas parades in Ontario. This year marked the 35 th season for the parade. It was dedicated to the memory of Edc Cole, one of the founders and a tireless worker on its behalf. behalf.
