A letter to council from Alan Berk of Oshawa, who represents W.E. Roth Construction Construction Ltd., states the one gas station which would have served local residents near Hwy. 401 has closed. "The previous gas station site is limited to a restaurant facility facility only today," Berk wrote. Also, Berk noted that the anticipated growth of households households and population is to increase increase 27 and 25 per cent respectively respectively over the next five years. "This obviously will entail a very significant increase of traffic along the major and only north/south thoroughfare of the Courtice area leading to Hwy 401, as well as any other local traffic to take place in the Courtice vicinity. "This rapid growth is expected expected to'continue in the future years and should lead one to. conclude that amenities to serve this traffic growth will become essential on both the easterly and westerly portions of Courtice Road." It was noted in the letter that currently the only other gas stations are located along Hwy 2. Berk also explained the planning department seems to have disregarded the fact that "my client has been a very responsible responsible and respected developer developer within the Durham region for the past 40 years." Duke Street Sidewalks in Need of Repair Clarington councillors have asked that complaints regarding the condition of the Duke Street sidewalk in Bowmanville be referred to budget deliberations. Duke Street resident John Bird explained in a letter to council the offending walk stretches from Argyle to Park Street and needs to be replaced. replaced. "The last time these sidewalks sidewalks were repaired, asphalt was laid over the existing concrete sidewalks. Over the years, these have eroded into large holes and cracks. This makes trying to walk on them very difficult." Bird states, "we have been trying for years, through our local councillors, to have the replacement of these sidewalks sidewalks put on the Works Department Department agenda." Councillors did not make any comments on the request. "He currently has developed developed commercial sites located at both comers of King Street East and Lambert St., both being being located in the Bowmanville urban community." Berk goes on to say the developer developer has developed another location at the north-west corner corner of Hwy. 2 and Centrefield Drive and had built 72 homes in the area adjacent to the Westcastle Plaza. Berk states the developer also has other properties, including including a 600-acre parcel in the Kirby area.
