8 The Clarington/Courtice Independent, Bowman ville, Saturday, November 30, 1996 Sand & Gravel Bantams Caught Napping in Grafton The Bowmanville Sand and Gravel Bantams travelled to Grafton on Saturday, November November 23, for a tournament. Sand and Gravel played against Grafton in a solid team effort winning 6-2. Scoring for Sand and Gravel were Adam Sarginson (2g,la), Ryan Or- miston (2g), Neil Legree (lg), Phil Santos (lg), Bryan Ville- mere (la), Ryan Roth (la), and Jamey McCarthy(la). Sand and Gravel faced CRHL Rival Aamco in game two. Sand and Gravel were caught napping in the first period with Aamco taking a four goal lead. The last two periods were evenly matched . but Aamco maintained their lead for a 4-0 win. D With lessons learned trom Grafton, Sand and Gravel played the next day in Bowmanville Bowmanville against Skylight. In the first period, defence- man Tom Tester scored with assists from Phil Hopkins and Adam Sarginson for Sand and Gravel. Late in the first, Skylight Skylight tied the game with a goal by Ian Cuthbertson with assists from Jeff Hrdlicka and Mike Distefano. In the second period Skylight took the lead late in the period with a goal by Jonathan King- ham assisted by Mike Wood and Bill Kiff. In the third, Sand and Gravel's Gravel's Adam Sarginson tied the game up with the assist from Phil Santos. Jamey McCarthy put Sand and Gravel ahead with a nice pass from Bryan Villemere. Phil Santos scored from the point with assists, by Phil Hopkins Hopkins and Neil Legreeto to give Sand and Gravel a two goal lead. With less than a minute to go in the game, Sand and Gravel's Adam Sarginson capped things off with his second second goal of the game, assisted by Luke Denison for a 5-2 win. Statesman Inconsistent The Canadian Statesman Minor Minor Atom Toros played three league games on the weekend and produced to date their most inconsistent hockey of, the season. Whitby travelled to the Darlington Darlington Arena-on Friday, November November 1, and outworked the Toros and subsequently defeated defeated them 1-0. Whitby played with more desire than the Statesman-boys. However the next day, Newmarket Newmarket were the visitors, and a much more dedicated squad of Toros trounced them 10-3. It was a strong effort all-around and the Bowmanville crew dominated in all areas. Adam Cryderman led the attack attack with three goals and one assist. Alex Hamilton also had a big night with (2g, 3a). Jeff Johnston also scored twice and added one assist. Other goal IGA Midgets Win Fifth Straight Game The Graham IGA Midgets are on a roll winning their fifth straight game 3-0 over Ram- nor. The legs seemed very weak though the mind was willing. Strong goaltending by Markham once again stumped the Toros 1-0. The Toros have won two tournaments, tournaments, and in league play, they sport a very respectable record of 8 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie.
