What is being heralded as probably the finest season for many years for. the Oshawa- Durham Symphony Orchestra (ODSO), will open on Sunday, December 15, 1996 with 'The Great Romantics'. This program, program, designed by new Music Director and Conductor, Marco Parisotto, includes three compositions; compositions; Liszt's Piano Concerto Concerto No. 1 in E flat, Brahms' Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 and the first performance performance of a work of orchestra by Montreal composer, James Harley. This work was commissioned commissioned by the Oshawa- Durham Symphony Orchestra and the Canada Council. The soloist for the Piano Concerto will be, in the words of Maestro Parisotto, "The poetic André Laplante, a long- admired Canadian virtuoso, who will electrify you with the wizardry of Liszt's First Piano Concerto". The Brahms First Symphony, considered one of his greatest compositions, is one of two major works by Brahams selected selected by the Music Director for this season in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the composer's death. The concert is sponsored in part by The Eaton Foundation, to whom the ODSO extends much appreciation for the ongoing ongoing support. Also Quality Suites, Whitby, is thanked for providing complimentary complimentary accommodation for our Music Director and Soloist during their stay in the area in connection with the concert. The first concert of, what is surprising to many, the ODSO's 40th season, will be performed at College Park Church, 1164 King Street, E., Oshawa, starting at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors, $10 for students students and $2 for children 12 and under. A Family Christinas Tradition Festival * Ax t Trrn fki ; Toronto Percussion Ensemble Coming to St. Paul's Church For December 8th Concert Get set for a world of music music that entertains and stimulates! stimulates! On Sunday, December 8th, at 7:30 p.m, the Toronto Percussion Ensemble performs performs at St. Paul's United Church. The spirited quartet is known for its dynamic and imaginative performances. The Toronto Percussion Ensemble is made up of John Brownell, Bill Brennan, Beverley Beverley Johnston, and David Campion. John Brownell performed with the Toronto Symphony and the Canadian Opera Company and has also been a soloist with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. Bill Brennan performs with the Kitchener-Watcrloo Symphony and is also a member of the Flaming Dono Dance and Drum Ensemble which performs traditional west African music. Beverley Johnston is noted noted for her dynamic performances performances on the marimba and other percussion instruments. She is also a member of the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra. David Campion is timpanist timpanist with the Tafelmisik Baroque Baroque Orchestra. He is also the principal percussionist with the Stratford Festival Orchestra.
